Hi people! Did they get this fixed yet?Does anyone know how to create a Dos bootable floppy? I have to do this to reinstall the Bios for my 2 uncooperative Orbs. I have 5 now. 3 are working. 2 are messed up.Thanks!-Scott

I have 2 HDR-6 machines, i would like to sell as a set. Rom's are kinda old, but can be upgraded. They have have 10 min track time- i think it is a 380 meg ibm drive or something. serious inquiries only, i may put these on ebay if no one responds. Remove donotspam from my email addy

Hi All! I found out that what I had to do was to create a Startup disc. I guess its the same as a Dos bootable floppy. Today, I will find out if the 2 Orbs will live again. Hey, I am looking for a good deal on a mx1 or mx2. Anyone have one? Also, does anyone have any newer eprom chips for the V8? Thanks-Scott

Hi all, I am still waiting for my new Bertsch unit. The last I heard is that he had the parts that he was waiting for and it should ship on the 15th. My activity in the studio has slowed down in anticapation of recieving my new deck. He did give me a free upgrade for the trouble. I will now have the higher sampleing rate instead of the usual 44.1. Happy hardisking.

HDR-6, HDR-8 HDR-V8
Hello there !I am sitting here in Germany and see all your problems and commends. As I am taking care of HDR users here in Germany I might be able to give you some hints for HDR usage. Biggest Problem are Harddrives These are causing most of all trouble with the HDR series. After some time the Harddrives causing problems as they are getting more and moore faulty. The only way to survive is to replace it. we found following Harddrives working very fine with HDR`s : Seagate St 32122A 2.1 GB; Samsung SV 0432 A 4,3 GB; Samsung SV 0431 G 4,3 GB and Fujitsu PIcobird 14 4,3 GB. We also found ORB drives used as Master not very reliable with HDR. If there is any other question please don`t hesitate to ask we might be able to help you.

Hi all, I live in Jakarta, Indonesia and having trouble finding some information about my HDR-6 below: I am using Vestax HDR-6 with ROM version 3.04 and one 2.1GB harddisk. How could I add one more harddisk? What is the maximum harddisk capacity that can be added to my HDR-6? I canít use the EFFECT menu (in the FUNCTION menu). How to add the effect to the song I have recorded? What are the computer softwares that can be used to control my HDR-6?except MP6 downloaded. And what about the connection system (using optical, co-axial, or MIDI) ? Currently, I can only record two tracks from two inputs. How to record more than two inputs into more than two tracks? Are there somebody that can send me a copy of HDR-6 manual? I will pay the copy and shipment fee. I am really appreciate for any given information. Happy hardisking.-one2

All Vestax HDRs
Hi Dudes!I have been sick lately, so havent had the energy to try and fix the messed up Orbs yet.*** Anyone needing manuals can email me.I have manuals for all Vestax HDRs, and the Mx-1 mixing pannel.***Welcome to all the new people who are posting! Steve: to erase the existing audio, you need to either format the drive; or set the "A" locate point the the beginning of each song, and the "B" locate to the end of each song, then "erase" . Then you want to "reduce" the PLAYLIST. You may need to UNPROTECT the hard disc first. You may also record directly over any existing audio.***Wan, you can have 2 hard drives, but the 2nd one must have jumpers set to "slave". I am not sure what the hard drive capacity the HDR6 has, but I doubt it exceeds 8.4 gigs. The "effect" function only works if the optional FX1 effects card is installed.You can only record more than 2 tracks at a time on a HDR6 if you have the optional card installed, or if you use a DAT machine as a front end, and go thru the A/D converters of the DAT to the digital in on the HDR6.***Mike, did you get the Bertsch unit yet?***Gerfried , thanks for the info! No I have not recieved the new Bertsch unit yet. The latest word is that they had some trouble with some screen printing. I assume he means on the front panel. He said it would be another 3 to 4 days. I am starting to get impatient especialy since I am paying interest on the money I sent him. Happy hardisking.

I recommend sending $10 to anyone that copies manuals for you. This pays for the expenses and a cup of coffee, but not gas or time. Just a suggestion

Hi there u all.This is my first so I might be asking the same questions as others.I'm looking for a adat card,a smpte card and a manual for the MX 1.Also I'm trying to make the MX1 controll my 2 v8's AND my samlitude 2496(Sekd)to run together as well as to controll my virtual chanels with my MX1.Any hints?C U

Dear Scott, There is a Seagate ST32140A installed in my HDR-6. As far as I know, that is a 2.1GB harddisk. Why don't you sure about it? Is there any problem when I still use it? Actually, what is the maximum harddisk capacity that can be used (when I use one or two harddisk)? BTW, when I turn on my HDR-6 for the first time and pushing the FF, REW, or PLAY button, I hear a fading-out noise from my speaker. Can you or anyone else give me some advice how to remove the noise?

Hi Stathis. The cards are out of production,I believe, but Bertsch Electronics in Canada may have the ADAT and SMPTE cards, and maybe the TDIF cards. Call them at 250-992-9298,ask for Susan or JP.The Mx1 seems to work well with newer Bios chips in the V8, but the arm track buttons dont seem to function right, so you will probably want to arm the V8 tracks on the V8 itself.I have the manual, email me if you want it. The mx-1 must start the V8, which you have striped with midi time code, which will drive the sequencer. If you are really tricky, you can also record all of your mx1 moves into the sequencer. You are on your own when it comes to using the mx1 to control the virtual channels on Samplitude. You somehow need to change the set continuous control messages into different CC message numbers to match the channels on Samlitude. Good, luck, and let us know how it goes...***Hey Wan, it it a 2.1 gig hard disc, you are right. I am not 100% sure as to what the max hard disc capacity is, for the HDR6. You will have to experiment, or comb through the archives on this web site, for your answers. I am not sure about the sound you are hearing. Does it go away, or is it always present? C YA! -CS7

I have found a stock of Seagate ST31277A 1.2 GB drives. I have used this as a replacement drive in my HDR6 machines and it works perfectly. Contact me if you are interested in obtaining any of these. This is the last of them

Hello. A little more info on Orbs: I've now had some data problems with my orb. A quick two-track recording I was very fond of has been corrupted. Needless to say, I'm disappointed, but I think I may have figured out a trick to the orb drive. It seems that as long as you have the orb inserted before startup, and eject it before shutting down, everything is OK. Mine only got corrupted after I tried to boot it with the machine already on. Of course, this is largely conjecture, so I may well be wrong. If anyone else has noticed a pattern like this with their orb & hdr, I'd like to hear about it. I'm not quite ready to give up on removeable storage yet. May the I/0 gods smile upon you. -john

I'm new to this forum though I have had my unit for many years. One problem I cannot seem to figure out is ... I have 1 HDR6 and 1 HDR8. The HDR 6 is master. In playback, The master outs of the HDR 6 comes out the master outs of the HDR8 even though I'm running Direct out of the HDR6. Is there an EPROM upgrade for this ?
