Can anyone tell me what about the opening box that comes up in the HDR-8 software mixer. What are these midi settings for. I know they are for my soundcard port settings. But what are there functions with the HDR-v8 recorder. Is there a manual anywhere that can be gotten for the software? It seems to be very simple, but I have some problems with the play controls from the computer.

Has anyone had experience hooking up HDR6, 8 and V8 together? Do they all work together, like when you hook up multiple HDR6? Has anyone tried the MX 1 controller with the V8? Does it work? What the difference between the MX1 and MX2? Thanks!

Hi everyone, Just wanted to let you know I got the MP-8 mixer working properly with the V8 in my PC. My big problem was make sure that the MIDI I/O was set correctly for my soundcard. The open page that comes up when you open the software. All the controls, EQ,etc. work correctly. Midi Input is for the internal device on the soundcard and OUT is mp401 or how even you access the midi out of the PC.

Hi Everyone, a little tip on backing up stuff from your HD to mini disk. If you have a soundcard on your PC with digital I/O optical and coaxial I/O's this will work. Or purchase a neat little device by Mideman called the CO2. It has all the necessary connections on it. Hosa products also has a similar unit. There both about $65. I can give you some sites that sell digital connectors for Soundbaster cards if you want,(e-mail me). Once you get I/O's connected to MD and V8, do a normal backup from V8 and push record on MD Let it fly til it's done. The demo in the V8 took about 18 minutes to backup all tracks. The MD disks are cheaper than dat tapes. About 4 for $10 bucks. Ain't bad!

Thanks for the interesting backup idea,Bill. I've heard that the Minidisc uses a compression on the data. Does anyone know if this would have an effect when the backup was reinstalled on the HDR? Also, Ive heard that when the HDRs first came out (back when there was the HDR4) that there was a backup scheme to VHS videotape via a standard VCR. Does anyone know anything about this?

I hooked up my friends V8 as Master and my hdr6s were slaves. The time on the display is out of sync. The hdr6s were all together, but the V8 was ahead. When I listened to the headphone outs of the hdr6s, the V8 came through really hissy and a bit distorted. Whats up with that?

Hi Folks! Good news for those of you wondering if you can Sync up V8s, Hdr6s and Hdr8s! I have been experimenting, and the Hdr6 and Hdr8 Sync up and work flawlessly ( so far anyway). I was able to get the V8 to sync with the other 2, but theres a trick. The V8 MUST be a slave, and Must be last in the chain. Otherwise when the audio from a V8 is passed through a hdr6 or 8, it sounds like shit. But if the V8 is last in the chain, the audio from a hdr6 or8 running through it sounds fine. Also, theres another bit of a glitch, but apparently no big deal: The counter on the V8 runs way ahead of the other 2 machines. So If you have a song that runs 3:02:18 on the hdr6 or 8, it is 3:18:22 on the V8. So you MUST make the song time longer on the V8. Otherwise, it seems to work perfectly (so far anyway). COOL!!!!

Has anyone hooked the Orb to a HDR6 or HDR8 and run the eide cord out the back, setting the orb on top of the hdr? Would be messy, but better than removing the cover everytime you want to change discs....

Well,I dont know what happened, but the hard drives on the V8s are toast.Has anyone had the hard drives fry out on the v8s for no reason? The units were supposedly new. I had only used them for about 3 hours. I had hooked them up to a hdr6 and hdr8. Now I think that the crunchy sound I was getting was due to the hard discs going bad. Has anyone else synced up the V8 with the other HDrs? I dont understand why both hard drives would fail....
