Hey Scott, don't you trust me? I should have that HDR-8 with the new BIOS (3.04) in about 2 weeks. From there I just need to run some clones to make sure it works and then we'll take it from there. Does anyone know if a JL Cooper Fadermaster (not the PRO version) will work to control the HDR's

Jim: I posted that before you outbid that guy, I thought you were going to let him have it, so I thought the chances were slim of getting the chip off of some stranger, who probably wants to use his new hdr and not wait around to get his chip back...Its cool you got it! Hooray for that! *** Has anyone heard any new stuff about the famous hdrV8 rebuild? I heard that Vestax was going to pay for some of the cost, if you bought your machine within 2 years. But I am still waiting to hear from Mr Bertsch to confirm this. Anyone???

Matt: Heres the deal: J.P.Bertsch is the guy who invented these hdrs, from what I hear. He has a new company called Bertsch Electronics, up in Canada. For 300$, you can get your V8 upgraded, and fixed, to version 3.20. It has a one year warrany. Ive also heard that if you bought it new within the last 2 years, and can prove it, this upgrade/fix can be had for 80$, and Vestax kicks in the rest. There are some issues, though, with shipping it in and out of the country (red tape, forms to fill out, etc.). This is a great deal, in my opinion. Also for about 1000 clams , you can have it coverted to a Bertsch DPR, which is a more advanced version of the V8, and records in standard WAV. format. SEE ya! Scott

Sorry kent, I don't have an upgrade sheet. All I know that some of the improvements are data saves when unit is turned off without using protect mode. Bigger multi HD usage (yeah whateva), thats all I know as far as that.

Here is an update regarding my Canda shipping endeavors for those who have asked: Sending an HDR6 over to Canada for repair is not that difficult. According to Customs, fill out your international waybill with UPS, or whomever you decide to use, and attach the following in one of those packing ticket pouches and stick it to the side of the box, next to the UPS waybill: A letter that says the unit is going to Bertsch's office and address; your name, address and telephone, a brief description of the model with model number, serial number, etc; that the unit was purchased in the United States - list the dealer or individual you purchased it from; the fact that it is "...being sent for non-warranty repair service to bring the unit back up to its original, working condition." (very important it is worded this way); and the estimated value on the item in its as-is, not yet repaired condition (I'd match this amount with the amount you insure the package for). I chose to ship via UPS's "Canada Standard Service". The price is similar, but unlike US Postal, this is a live, trackable package. Delivery time from the middle of the US of A is about 8 days. Cost - about $40.00 with $1000.00 insurance. I'm going with $1000.00 because if it gets broken, I can either buy two more HDR-6's for $400-500/each as I'm seeing them on the Net, or one of those new Fostex VR-800's! (http://store.yahoo.com/fostex/vr800.html). Since it's being sent for repair there are no duties or taxes - as long as Mr. Bertsch indicates on his repair invoice the exact same statement: that "the unit was repaired to bring it back up to its original working condition." I emailed and reminded him to do so. Hope this helps! Email direct with questions.

I know this is a HDR site but, I thought I would put a little something in for my cousin... He is selling his EMAX II sampling keyboard 2MB with a library of sounds $450 or trade for an HDR.

I should be getting the HDR-8 with the 3.04 BIOS any day now. How many people aaree interested in the chip? Please e-mail me and let me know if you are interested so I can get the EPROMs. They'll probably be between $10 and $15 each.

Hey, I think my hard drive is about to bite the big one. It's making chattering noise, anyway, what's the best drive to get for a HDR-6? Most relliable quite, all that stuff. I need to get one pretty quick, and I'll probably get 2, and replace both of them. Thanks for the help. Bill

Bill, The following link has a list compatible drives for the HDR-6, HDR-8 and V8 hard disk recorders. http://www.mooremusic.com.au/vestax/vestaxdr.htm I myself recommend the IBM ones.

Also, a good place to start looking for the drives would be Ebay as it is almost imposible to find most of the listed drives new.
