hdr8
Greetings again, I take it that the HDR8 version 3.04 can handle 8.4 gig
drives? Is that the correct asumption, or is that only for "V8"? Does
anyone know the lowest seek time that will work? And does the stock power
supply support the Maxtor 10 gig. These posts are all speaking of mounting/powering
the drives externally etc.... I just want to know what the maximum size,
rpm, drive has been succesful with the HDR8. Not V8. I have many projects
recorded and released with the HDR 8, I am happy with the quality overall,
It's just this Satanic Hard Drive Replacement problem, Arrrrrgh!!!!!!!

HDR8 Version 3.04
Greetings again. I saw where everyone was trying to figure out how much
recording time they had on their hard drive, by adding each song, creating
song's til you run out etc.... I have found an easier way! Just delete
all song markers and when you hold stop and ff at the same time, it takes
you to the end of the disk and displays the total time. I just bought
a Maxtor Model 91536u3std and it sees the drive with a total of 13.33
hours of recording time!!! Wooooooo - Hooooooo!!!!!! I'll keep you posted
on how the cut and paste accuracy works out etc... I am excited about
this! Peace out all.

reBertched HDR-V8s
Hello all! DOFKA, might it be 3.33 hours? (8.4 GB should give you 3 1/3
hours for each of 8 tracks); Has anyone had any luck with CD Recorder
decks for backup? With CDR or DAT I don't think it's possible to backup
anything longer than the media (70-80 minutes for CD). So a track by track
backup would allow you to backup an hour long song to 8 CDs. On the other
hand you should be able to back up an 8track, 9 minute song to one CD.
I did have an idea for backing up the entire drive: once the drive is
full remove it, install it into a PC as drive2 and use one of the backup/archive
programs that let you do a sector by sector drive image copy (which can
then be saved away either on multiple CDS - most of the software will
let you span multiple Cds for a single image, or on a directory on the
monster harddrive on your computer). I did email a few companies on this
(Symantec, Norton) and they thought that it would be possible (although
they stressed that it would have to be a sector by sector copy for which
no compression is possible - the drive image would take up as much storage
as the drive itself). Any ideas on this? (does anyone out there have the
capability to test this idea?)

Yep Andy, It is just over 3 hours of recording time. This drive seems
to get hotter than the other drives I used previously. When the drives
get to hot, that's when I have noticed some problems.I mounted the drive
outside of the unit in a "removeable hard drive rack" which has a cooling
fan(cost about $15.00 for rack w/fan). I will keep y'all posted on how
it works out. Peace

HDR6,8 V8, Mx1
Hello Gentlemen. For a great reference, I went and printed out all of the
previous months post it pages. I put them in a binder and went thru them,
highlightin g the important stuff.I am guessing that 8.4 gigs is the max
you will get out of any of these machines. I have a friend witha 6.4 gig
drive in a HDR8, he says it works, but I havent fully tested it for myself. The
original power supply in the V8 was a piece of shit. Go back and read
the previous post its, as I listed there the replacement power supply
put in 2 of mine by the Manufacterer of all of these machines:Bertsch
Electronics. I talked to the inventor of the V8 over the phone, and he
told me the original V8 power supplies were junk, so if any of you know
where to get the NEW IMPROVED ones from the description I gave a few months
back, or just what the numbers in the description mean, please post! By
the way, Winamp is cool, but the only use with a HDR is probably to convert
your final mixes to MP3 and get them on the internet.Oh, yeah, a program
called Blind Write would probably work to backup the files to a CD ROM.
Maybe you could burn the backups live as wave files? Someone ought to
try this stuff...L8ter CS7

Please advice were I can download the Windows mixing software for my HDR8.
I once saw a beta version of this software. Is there other software that
can control the mixing via midi with a similar graphical interface? Thanx

HDR6
Hey gang, Here is an update on the DPR824 I ordered from Bertsch. I STILL
DON'T HAVE IT. The current problem is that he has to do a little customizing
to get it to sync up with my HDR's. I am getting more and more concerned
all the time. It has been 3 months since he told me that the deck was
"ready to ship". Since then there has been a parts shortage, a screen
printing problem on the front panel and now the sync issue. In the process
I have recieved some free upgrades like the 88.2k sample rate and an extra
digital I/O and I got him to cover the shipping but none-the-less I still
do not have a new deck yet. The last ship date I got from him was Mon
Dec 11th. I am haveing simalar problems with a mixer I ordered but that
is another story. Happy hardisking.

Hi Guys! Hey Pete: Geez I dont know where to get that program right off
hand, but if you go back to the previous months post its, I am sure you
will find someone who can help you. Hey Mike E: WOW! I was wonding if
you ever got it! Man that sucks! I have talked to Jon Paul Bertsch many
times, and he seems to me like a good guy, so I dont think he will rip
you off. But the time you are losing and the momentum you are losing...
I had to screw around with that #@*@##@!!! Vestax company for about 6
months to get a HDR6 back, and THEY wouldnt even talk to me! And then
@#@@&*&%$! UPS shipped a V8 back and forth across the @#@@#*! country
3 times or so ... It makes you want to @#*! wreck @#%*!! (I am trying
to clean up my language) Anyway, I feel your pain dude! I hope Old JP
comes through for ya! L8ter!

Hey there. If anyone wants to buy a HDR-6 get in touch with me. I've got
one with 2 1 gig seagate drives installed. The unit was just serviced
and the power supply replaced, so it's got a clean bill of health. Lemme
know if you interested. Thanks.

HDR V8 3.05
HI Hard Heads! This my first time in. Actually I have plenty of questions
bout this machine but Ill start with this:Is it posible to use the MIDI
conection on the V8 to make it play or record in sincro with a sequencer?
I mean does it recieve that kind of order via MIDI or its just for controlling
the internal mixer. Thanx from Argentina

hdr v8 vers 3.15
I think I may be suffering from thee dreaded power supply inadequacy blusezzz!
Oh No! How does this manifest itself on other poster's machines? I fitted
this: Seagate ST301211a (+5v 900ma max/+12v 1500ma max) and I'm getting
clicks and pops on playback. Also, after leaving it on for a while, I
got the power down/power back up problem I also used to get w/the syjet
drive :( Am I ever going to get this thing working? Anyway, I'm planning
to proceed w/part two of my plan, which is to locate a case with removable
drive caddies in it behind the HDR, and connect it via a new ide lead
through one of the expansion slots on the back panel. The case will have
its own power supply, so no added strain! In thee meantime, has anyone
used this model drive succesfully? It's nice and quiet, so I'm hoping
I can get it to work. Being on th "trailing edge" for HD capacities certainly
is a pain! Anyone sending their HDRs to bertch for upgrades please keep
us informed as to yr progress, 'cuz I'm surely going to have to send my
machine there sometime in '01! A prosperous new year to the lot o' ye!
best wishes Norman Fay/vietgrove

Hi All! Iron yes, I thiunk the manual was translated from japanese, and
the translaters were on (the brown) acid. Heres what may help. Go back
to where all tjhe previous months post its are listed, download them all
and print them out. Almost all questions have been dealt with in the past.
Highlight the good parts. Put them in a binder in chronological order.
There, you have a new manual! The unit can sync to midi as the master.
TYou have to stripe the hdr with code from the sequencer. Its a bitch
to setup, but it works great, for automated mixes....Ciao Scott

V8, HDR8
I built a beautiful oak cabinet for the studio and those HDRs sure look
pretty in them. I took Scotts suggestion and copied all the prior posts
to a MS Word file, ended up being 83 pages worth and took about 5 min.
To tell how this is done for the novices. 1. Open and save a Word processor
file and name something like Vestax Info, then minimize. 2. Click twice
with the left mouse button, this should hightlight the entire text of
file. 3. Then use right mouse button and choose "copy" use Alt/Tab combo
to open WP file and then use right mouse button and choose "paste" 4.
Alt/Tab back into post it and repeat. Tomorrow I will start by deleting
information and headers that take up alot of file space and then essentially
doing the same process as in the beginning to copy/paste into a variety
of subject files. In my case it will be all the infor for HDR8 into one
file and V8 into another, information that overlaps go into both files.
We shall see how this works out, but to make a new manual complete I can
paste diagrams from old manual. I will make this available when finished
and we can see if we can improve over existing manual and help others
joining us new to get up to speed sooner because reviewing the last 2
years posts in daunting
