Scott - [email protected] [Sun Apr 2 18:13:55 2000] Wow, this clean slate deal every month, I dont know if I like this. Its hard to maintain a thread of thought. What do you guys think? **Anyway, Mike, you should contact VNO for the schematics. The scans arent quite the best, but it will give you an idea. **I went to the Bertsch site the other day, and they have a new hdr which is like our V8s on steriods- 32 tracks! Pretty cool!**My first rebuilt V8 is on its way back. I will let you all know how it works when it arrives. See ya - Scott Jim McDonald - [email protected] [Tue Apr 4 12:02:46 2000] HDR-8 Is anyone using a JL Cooper CS-10? I need a manual and can't find one anywhere. I'm trying to use it to control my HDR's and Cubase and I'm having a horrible time with figuring out all of the connections. If anyone has a manual or knows where I can get one, I'd greatly appreciate it. (I've tried JL Cooper - they weren't too helpful) Mike - [Thu Apr 6 14:16:28 2000] HDR6 Can anyone tell me if the E-mu Launch Pad will work with the HDR6? Thanks Mike Lex Mens - [email protected] [Mon Apr 10 15:48:17 2000] HDR6 and MAC G3(logicaudio) Has anyone experience with the combination of HDR6 and MAC G3(logicaudio. I would like to use them syngrone by Midi. My mac as the clock, to the Midi in of my HDR6 Is this possible? - [Mon Apr 10 16:41:03 2000] test Scott - [Wed Apr 12 08:30:12 2000] Hey Man! Whats up? I got my V8 back from Bertsch! It F@#%ing Rules! Heres the scoop: about 20$ each way "brokerage fee".About 23$ each way to ship. A ripoff 15$ charge to bill me not Bertsch for the to Canada brokeragde fee. Total: about 101$ shipping plus the 80$ rebuild fee. Time elapsed: It was fast! They had it a week or 2 I think. It took about a week to get there and a week to get back. Shipping things out of the country is a pain in the ass! But hey! At least I didnt have to call Tokyo this time to get it back!** Sorry, I am not familiar with the gear you guys are asking about...**I got the 3.04 chips into my hdr 8s tonight! Jim McDonald had some made, and they work great! Thanks Jim! I highly recommend getting this latest operating system chip in your hdr8, if you dont have it! Makes dealing with the machines a lot easier (it remembers your settings, such as sampling rate, and sync).**I had an idea... I wonder what would happen if I put an operating system chip from a V8 into a hdr8? I will try it eventually, and let you know...**Also, one of these days I will look in the rebuilt V8 and tell you guys what it says on the NEW IMPROVED(!!!) power supply...I know youre all dying to find out!**So how are your machines working? Anybody using the orbs? How are they working out?**Well I am sending another V8 off soon. Hopefully I can figure how to pay the outgoing brokerage fee upfront, so they dont freak out on me like last time and charge me extra to correct THEIR oversight! Later! -CS7 Don - [email protected] [Wed Apr 12 18:30:52 2000] 3 V8s I'm so excited to find this site. I was searching ebay and stumbled onto this site....Just a couple of questions. What is the latest operating system for the V8? I have all the chips from 3.12-3.15 What is the largest drive the V8 will recognize. I currently have a couple of 2 gigs inside, but would love to be able to get more "space" for recording. Does anyone ever run into little gremlin pops and cracks showing up on recorded tracks of the "slaved" machine? Thanks in advance for all your help. Don Jamesgray - [email protected] [Wed Apr 12 20:22:37 2000] HDR8&V8 Well, here is my update. I have experienced the same hell everyone else has that has sent a V8 to Canada. UPS has more phone numbers than Carter has pills and it cost me about $100 in shipping. I got my hdr8 bios chip but I think I broke it trying to install it. My suggestion is to email one of us that has sent units to Canada before sending yours, The key thing to remember with UPS is that you want to send the unit "FREE DOMICILE" Scott - [Thu Apr 13 04:24:23 2000] I printed out all of the posts (all months), and I stapled it all together and keep it with my hdr manuals. It saves a lot of time when I want to find something out!Good old PAPER, remember the concept? Well its still valid!**Installing the Eproms: You must bend all of the pins in a bit, and do it uniformly to them all, on both sides. When they go right into the socket. If you dont do this, you Will have problems!** I forgot to tell you what fun I had installing the eproms on my hdr8s, last night. A screw head stripped, one that heald down the plate that holds the hard drives. I spent an hour or 2 drilling it out, and trying not to get metal shavings everywhere inside the machine. I cant tell you how many times Ive had to drill these things out! Man was I pissed! Why do they use such cheap metal in the screws? And why do they always have to crank one down too tight? Maybe its an evil plot to prevent us from opening up our machines! ** The latest OS for the V8 is 3.20. Contact Bertsch for details. As far as I know, the largest hard drive they will take is 1 8.4 gig drive.**What exactly does "Free Domicile " mean? See ya CS7 Rico Suave - [email protected] [Thu Apr 13 04:44:09 2000] HDR-V8 Hey gang! Vno finally got a V8, now I got it ha ha! I just installed an ORB in it. It runs V 3.15 and the ORB seems to give it 50 minutes of recording time, so far no problems but I gotta give it the 5 hour studio test. It is set up different than the HDR-6 no pitch? Hmmmmm! Has anybody seen those DPR recorders, talk about funky. Scott - [Fri Apr 14 07:50:11 2000] Bad news, people. After spending some time putting the fixed V8 through the paces, I figured out that my inputs for tracks 5 and 6 are still screwed up, giving nasty static noises! Man this SUCKS! Scott - [Fri Apr 14 23:19:29 2000] I talked to Mr Bertsch today, and he said turn it off/on and the converter should reset, or something like that. So I fired it up today, and its working right now! I was worried for a minute there...**I also talked to Susan at Bertsch and she said how someone had claimed their V8 was worth 1$ to customs. And....it shows up at Bertsch all trashed! Like customs and or UPS beat the @#$ out of it for not claiming the proper value! Can you believe it? So be forewarned! Over and out! CS7 Mike - [Sat Apr 15 11:38:05 2000] HDR6 Hey Gang, I just wanted to let the group know that I am in the proccess of writing some new mixer software for the HDR6. I have had some good success with what I have written so far. The program will basicaly be an 18 Channel virtual mixer that will control 3 HDR6's. I hope to also have the transport controls plus some auto locate functions. I will keep the group informed on the progress. Hey Scott, I emailed VNO about the schematics but I have not heard anything back. Happy hardisking Mike Scott - [Mon Apr 17 04:17:52 2000] Hey Mike! Thats Great! How much harder would it be to make it for 24 tracks? 24 is kind of a standard # of tracks. What if you decide to get another hdr6? Could it also control the other hdrs? Just a thought...Anyway, I would copy you the schematix, but my computer is totally screwing up lately, and I cant even view the files myself! (Case in point, why I like my HDRs more than Cubase or whatever.) Mike - [Mon Apr 17 19:09:23 2000] HDR6 Well there is good news and bad. I just tried my latest version of my software and I have the volume, mute, pan and pre level controls working on all 18 channels. Sounds great right. Well do to an operator error I have to recreate a bunch of code that I had. It will take a couple of days to recover from my oops. Oh well. As for 24 channels Scott, I am running into space constraints with 18 so I don't think that 24 is going to work very well. If I did make it 24, the controls would be awfully small. I did here back from VNO about the schematics. He said $5 for a CD with the schematics and some other stuff(he didn't say what).Happy hardisking jamesgray - [email protected] [Fri Apr 21 21:50:31 2000] HDR8 and V8 I was talking to Jn Bertsch on telephone and during the conversation he mentioned the V8 was reviewed by Sound on Sound Magazine years ago. www.sospubs.co.uk I did a search on the website for Vesax V8 and printed out all 9 pages. "Free Domicile" is the term you want to use with UPS to tell them you are paying all costs for shipment to Canada. I don't know what it means just what it does. I still think the PV1600X is the hot ticket for controlling HDRs and do search on 1600x cuz there are cool modifications you can do. Jn B. said with the HDR8 putting a single big hd is recommended (cuz of pwr supply) He can't remember the name of the guy with the Seagate 20 gig in it, but said he has alot of HDR 6s in his studio. Waiting from Canada, I will be very happy next week James LSD - [email protected] [Wed Apr 26 03:53:00 2000] EMU DARWIN I would like to know if the Orb Drive is compatible with the EMU Darwin? I would like to get the internal SCSI version of the the drive. I currently have a 4gig SCSI connected to it externaly. I've had no problems with the machine or the hard drive, but it's getting full in there! I also want to use the drive to back up my projects. I've been using the poor man back method, but this Orb drive seems to be a thing from Heaven for the HDRC. If it's compatible with the Darwin, I'll be picking it up this week!I know many of you use the Vestax HDR, but if there is anyone using a Darwin with a an Orb SCSI HD (internal or xternal) please let me know the scoop! Thax Scott - [email protected] [Wed Apr 26 07:35:41 2000] ALL Hi guys! James, I read that Sound on Sound article. Its good, but they are wrong about one thing for sure. When you use the effects sends and returns, the effected signal does NOT show up at digital outs for mixdown. A major oversight in design, if you ask me. The HDR6 does not have this limitation. I am not sure about the HDR8.** I think I must be the one who they are talking about who put the 20 gig in a V8. It was a Maxtor 20gig, but I still got only 8.4 gigs worth of space.** Hey LSDee,you should buy it and let us know what you find out! If you can't record successfully direct to it, I bet you can install it as a 2nd drive and use it to backup your files. Also, Ive been using regular IDE hard drives and mounting them externally in removable rack devices, and this works out really well! See YA!! JamesGray - [email protected] [Wed Apr 26 20:50:19 2000] HDR8+V8 For what its worth I live in the Seattle area and write music with titles ranging from "I just want to be like Jesus" to I'm Hitting Bottom and She's Hurting for Love. In Seattle we have a number of musicians who played in the bands I admired as a teenager. Steppenwolf, Big Brother, Santana. What has this to do with the HDRs? Everything man, its not about the equipment, its about the music and my V8 can travel while my computer sits at home. I love the plug ins on my computer, but it aint portable. Also women have been known to act wickedly and offend my morals when listening to 20 bit resolution. Those of us with Hard drives in the computer and recorder are at an advantage. I would write more, but I cannot describe the mahem, because if i did I would be deleted Mike - [Thu Apr 27 23:55:36 2000] HDR6 Hello group, Just a quick update on the mixer software. I have all functions on all 18 channels working. I am still fine tunning things so that everything functions at it's fullest. I am still having problems with the transport controls but I don't think it is a show stopper. I still do not have the info I need to get the track arm function to work. If anyone can help me out there I would appriciate it. I seem to recall reading a post from someone who said that they were useing 3 HDR6's and had added caps to the Aux send outputs to match the impedance when connecting the aux sends from 3 decks into a single effects unit. I have tried to find that post again but I can't. Does anyone know what the value of these caps would be? Well thats all for now. Happy hardisking.Mike Warren Huggett - [email protected] [Sun Apr 30 22:31:54 2000] HDR-6 Warren Huggett C/-Anabelle Bits 8 LORD ST botany NSW 2019 Australia
