One day long ago, John was playing on the guitar and
stumbled upon a chord progression. He played around with
it for a while, and the put the guitar away. Usually when that
happens, by the next time John picks up the guitar to play again,
he will have forgotten what he had previously developed.
However, some riffs will stick, and no matter how much time
passes...John will find himself returning again and again to
the same music.
That is the case with 'Fright'. A simple guitar riff that John could not shake--so he had to make a song with it. He called Mark one evening to play the riff over the phone. Mark commented that he was working on an idea for lyrics that might fit well with that music. Mark mentioned the theme of the lyrics was "You frighten me." John knew that was it.

You sit there planning revolution a cause I don't understand Is this the only resolution to your anger over land?
You dress up like weekend warriors
(Do you see how it is) You frighten me
You talk about the common law
Behind you a brightly colored flag
(Do you see how it is) You frighten me
True patriots died that you might be free
(Do you see how it is) You frighten me
