LOAN

Students, academic and non-academic staff of UKM and all registered members of the library are eligible to use all library facilities. Library members have to produce their campus card (for UKM students or staff) or library card (for external members) when borrowing library materials. Campus cards and library cards are non-transferable.

MEMBERSHIP

UKM Library membership is divided into two categories:

1)UKM Students and Staffs

2)UKM External members

DOCUMENT SUPPLY SERVICES

This service is extended to all academic / professional / administrative staff, postgraduates and final year students of the University. Undergraduate students of the University may be considered for the service if the required items are available only in libraries where they are denied library membership.

HOW TO REQUEST THE SERVICE?

A request must have full details of the materials on the request form. The forms can be obtained at the Readers Advisory Desk or at the Customer Services Division. Those interested in using the service should contact the Customer Service Division at level 4, of the Main Library.

TURN AROUND TIME

The response time for requested items within Malaysia takes 1-3 weeks while overseas requests take 2-8 weeks. Clients will be contact by email or phone when the items are ready to borrow. Loan period is 2 weeks.

INFORMATION PACKAGES SERVICES

1)Information Package Service is an application to obtain information on a particular field of study / topic from a variety of sources be they printed, media or electronic.

2) The information obtained is in the form of full text, abstracts or indices.

3)This Information Search service is free-of-charge for Academic members of UKM, UKM Management Officers and UKM Post Graduate Students.

4)Applications can be made by completing an Information Package Service form that can be obtained from the Readers’ Advisor Desk, Level 4, Tun Seri Lanang Library and the form can be submitted by e-mail, post or fax.

5)The applicant will be contacted within seven working days by telephone or e-mail for further information or the time of delivery.

INFORMATION SKILLS

The Information Skills Course is a guidance and education service programme for library customers. The main aim of this course is to build skills in accessing a variety of materials and information sources and to guide the customers towards using the materials and services provided by the Library with efficiency, effectively and independently. This course is on-going.

OBJECTIVES

a)To expose customers to how they can use the services, facilities and collections to be found in the Library.

b)To understand efficient and effective methods and strategies for finding information.

c)To enable customers to identify and access information from a variety of printed and electronic sources.

d)To build self-confidence in the search for knowledge and information for learning, teaching and research.

e)To build skills in making library comments/library research in the discipline under study.

f)To build skills in making citations for every reference made.

g)To build a culture of life-long education.
