And Then There Were None...

A great thing happened to me about 8 weeks ago. I helped whelp a litter of 6 Rottie puppies, 3 boys and 3 girls. Although I have whelped litters before, of other breeds, there was something different and more special about this one.
In the beginning most of the work was caring for mom. As the weeks went on, very quickly I might add, Mom decided to allow me to do more work. (Thanks Critter!) The puppies became increasingly busy and were ready to move to the kennel that we customized for their stay with us.
Anyone that thinks that raising puppies is easy or profitable should rethink that thought. For someone like myself who works with animals day in and day out, I was finding it stressful and difficult at times to keep up.
I managed to stick with what I thought were essential puppy rearing lessons, such as taking each puppy individually and working with them on trimming nails, playing ball, and chase and even a few baths with plain water for them to used to.
Before I knew it, my little babies were all of the age where it was time for them to leave and for us to say goodbye... tearfully.
Of course in my eyes, no one would be a good enough home for these special animals. I only hope that the homes they go to and the world that they grow up in is as loving and nurturing as the one that I feel they had for the first eight weeks of their life.
Will I whelp another litter or perhaps produce one?
Not for a Looooooong time!!!
