1918---Liberty Union High School burned down (fire started in the chemistry lab). This school was built on the corner of Maple and First Street in 1905. It was the future site of the Legion Hall.
1919---Roy E. Frerichs Post 202, American Legion was organized in Brentwood.
1924---Brentwood's American Legion Hall was constructed. The hall was funded by the State which passed a Bond Issue and turned monies over to the County to be administered. The state supplied the money and the County was to completely maintain the building once built.
1920's & 30's---Hall was also used for a movie theater.
1930's---Hall served as a skating rink.
1948's---Hall used as Brentwood's first City Hall.
1963-1965--Hall served as Liberty High School after school was partly burnt. Students attended classes in partitioned classrooms.
Other Uses of the Veteran's Hall
Fireman's Ball for over 60 years.
Voting.
Town Meetings.
Flood Evacuation Center when the Holland Tract flooded in 1978. The county set up cots.
Plays. Many citizens recall being a "star" on the American Legion stage. Dance recitals, school plays, Communinty Theater, and more.
