The developments of technology is very important in the world we're living in right now because technology can change people's lifestyle and society as well. It can change how people communicate with one another, receive information and how people get access to other parts of the world. American culture is transitioning into the world of digital, wireless digital, and everything in between.

Since the introduction of DVDs a few years back to digital cable, to digital cell phones; the lure of clearer pictures and crisper sounds have taken a hold of the fashionable hearts of America.  Although the quality of sound has not greatly evolved since the invention of CDs, CDs are becoming a thing of the past.  Ever since the invasion of Napster invasion opened up America to the world of mp3s, devices such as Apples iPOD and Rios Diamond have flooded the audio market.  Even CD players are being packaged with the ability to playback mp3s.  The idea of free music and storage devices with the capacity to hold 10 to 1000 times more music than typical CDs, mp3 players are becoming the future of transporting digital music.

In the cell phone market, the influence of digital technology is apparent as wireless providers have transitioned from the use of analog signals to digital signals.  But aside from influencing the general functionality of the cell phone use the new rave has been the introduction of text messages and camera phones. The fusion of the digital camera with the cell phone has become so popular because it has introduced a new way of communication.  Camera phone allows consumers to send pictures to each other via cell phones. Most of the recent phones have the ability to send and receive text messages as well.  The convenience or luxury of these devices that possess multiple functions seems to be the wave of the future.

So how does the technology in America differ from Korea today? I would say that there isn't much difference in development of technology. Whatever Korea has developed, America has it as well. Sometimes Korea's technology in some areas maybe be even more advanced. However, the difference is the distribution and the number of consumption of these technologies. When new technology devices have been introduced in Korea people tend to be quick about updating to the newer technology and adapt to that. Koreans have great interest in new gadgets and being up-to-date. Once new technology device is introduced in the market everyone buys it in a extremely short period of time. The new technology device becomes the trend and "gotta have" for everyone. The government, corporations, and institutions don't restrict or control the development of the new technology in the market whereas, in America technology is hugely controlled by the institutions and corporations.
