| Korean food is definitely unique and different from food anywhere else in the world. The one attribute which stands out the most is the spiciness. Korean food has a distinctive flavor with the use of various vegetables and spices to complement the meats. A Korean meal consists of different types of Korean food instead of having one specific dish for a meal. The different types of Korean foods are Bap (boiled rice), Juk (gruel), Guk& Tang (Soup), Jjigae & Jeongol (Stews and casseroles), Gui & Jeon (broiled and fried dishes), Jeotgal (Salted fish), Hoe (Raw fish), Dduk (Rice cakes),Namul (Vegetable dishes) and etc. Along with rice the main meal are stew, boiled fish,meat, and soup are considered as the main dishes. There are all different kinds of side dishes, such as kimchee (most well known korean food-spicy pickled cabbage), namuls (vegetable), and all different kinds of side dishes are served with the meal. Korean meal is never consisted of one main dish. There are several different side dishes and this is what makes the Korean food so unique. Depending on the occasions or number of people that are having the meal a number of these side dishes and main dishes vary. However, in every meal there has been at least two main dishes (soup and some kind of meat dish), and three side dishes. Korean food is generally not oily or fattening. There's a huge usage of fermentation in Korean food like kimchee, soybean paste, chilli paste which is proven to be very good for the health. A lot of Korean dishes are spicy, and rather flavorful. Each and every dish needs a lot of preperation and care to create a good Korean dish. |
| Many people argue that there is no such thing as American food. Food that is considered to be American is originally from another part of the world, especially pizza and pasta. No one can argue about the fact that pizza and pasta are Italian food however, due to the huge consumption by Americans it's often mistaken as American food. Therefore, if you look at the origins of all the foods in U.S there can not be such thing called "American"food. I'd like to say that the food that is most consumed in the U.S., can be considered "American food". Hamburgers, hotdogs, sandwiches, subs, fried chicken, french fries, pizza, pasta,pies, cakes, BBQ, macaroni and cheese, salads and etc. can be called "American food" because this is what most American people eat on a daily basis. When you ask foreigners especially the ones that are not from European countries, they'll say that hamburgers, hotdogs, and pizza are "American food". The biggest reason is because of the development and distribution of American fast food chains all over the country. Even I used to call pizza and hamburger "American" food because of McDonald's and Pizza Hut in Korea. Most common "American food" is known to be 'fast food'. There is a great number of fast food chains in the U.S as well as other parts of the world. Most of these fast foods are greasy and fattening. Although fast food is delicious and convenient it's not the healtiest food you can get. Usually an American meal consists of one main dish, and it's very simplistic. |
