The Haggman Family Tree
The first related Haggman that we have been able to locate so far is a certain Petter Haggman. He was a tailor in Stehag (M) and married Elna Nilsdotter, a maid, on the 7th of May 1750.
Earlier Stehag church records mention a horseman by the name of Petter Haggman, married to Sara. It is not clear whether this is our Petter Haggman and his first wife, or maybe the father and mother of our Petter. Sara did, however, die of a fever on the 12th of March 1749, at the age of 69, and the first child of Petter and Elna, born in 1751, was christened Sara. In those days it was quite common to commemorate a late spouse by naming a child of the new wife after her, but of course, the name may just as well celebrate the memory of a mother.
Elna was born in 1719 and died on the 16th of December 1761, less than a month after giving birth to her third daughter.
Petter Haggman died in Bosarp (M), a neighbouring parish, in 1768, after having reached the age of 84. Thus we can conclude that he was born around 1684, and that he was about 66 years old (!) when he married 31-year-old Elna.
