And that's how Columbus arrived where none had journied before him, praising the galleons who bore him, the Pinta, the Niña, and the Santa María.

*Davon hätte Kolumbus nur träumen können. Zu seiner Zeit gab es noch garkeine Galeonen - das waren relativ große, hochseetüchtige Viermaster, die erst Mitte des 16. Jahrhunderts entwickelt wurden. Und selbst wenn es sie schon gegeben hätte, dann hätte man sie ihm kaum spendiert für sein Abenteuer mit ungewissem Ausgang, dafür wären sie viel zu teuer gewesen! Die P. und die N. waren vielmehr Karavellen - wie ja auch im spanischen Original -, und die S.M. eine Karacke. Darüber schreibe ich hier etwas mehr.
