Guyana Nurses Association
The Guyana Nurses Association was established in 1928 and registered in 1936. The Association is the professional body representing Registered Nurses, Midwives, Health Visitors and Licensed Practical Nurses ( However LPNs cannot hold Executive positions in the Association). Nurses are charged a small monthly fee for membership. The Motto of the Association is "lifting as we climb".

The Association acquired a building in 1939 and this building once housed the Florence Nightingale Home where retired nurses dwell. The home also provided accommodation for student nurses who resided outside of the city (Georgetown).

The Association is managed by a fifteen member Executive Committee that is elected every three years (triennially)at the Annual General Meeting of the Association (AGM). The AGM is held during the Association's Anniversary activities held in the month of August.

The Association is also represented on several National Boards and Committees.

The Association also has branches in Berbice, Linden and West Demerara.
