When coming from the West in Anrien, an elven eye could notice seven magnificient towers each looking in a different way which had been magically created by the Valars, the fourteen powerful spirits who took physical form and entered Arda after its creation to give order to the world. The last tower was the westernmost of the towers in Anrien and was in the Firien-Woods beneith Ered Nimrais where the Mering Stream runs towards river Entwash and the Mouths of Entwash.
Halifirien tower was the highest of the towers and it appeared to stand up alone out of the wood. Behind it was a deep cleft, the Firien Dale. Out of the cleft it rose like a sheer wall but its outer slopes Nortwards were long and nowhere steep and trees grew upon it almost to its summit. As the hill descended the trees became ever more dense, especially along the Mering Stream. The Great West Road passed through the wood at the feet of the hill.
From the Great West Road a path opened up towards it summit. It turned from near the Great West Roads intrance into the wood and wound its way up to the end of the trees. There was an ancient stairway of stone leading to the beaconsite, a wide levelled cirle of level turf with lodges in the trees for the beacon wardens. At the Eastern side stood a low mound on which grew the white flowers Alfirin or as they also were called Simbelmyn. Here was the secret tomb of Elendil and from this tomb come the awe that dwelled on this hill and the woods below. Here lived Halifirien Arothion. Unseen by all the creatures living in the Firien-Woods around the uncatchable tower, he was in charge to look over Elendil's grave not allowing anyone to gaze on the resting bones of the King of kings.
He wandered through the forest with his yellow eyed friend, a frost saber named Kyra hunting the infidels that led by the desire of glory and honour looked for the secret stairway to Elendil's grave...it is told that none of this adventurers ever found his way back.
The few druids who can tell to have stared at him say he wears a lunar armor made of silver, mithryl and gold and his ivory and steel bow is known to be able to fell a tree with an arrow. From the looks of his armor and bow, the ancient and wise druids think he is an elf of Noldor that once lived in Gondolin, and refer to him as Arothion (the keeper of the silver gate) the Gondolindrim protector of the last gate and slayer of Gothmog the Lord of Balrogs.
Centuries passed with noone ever finding the secret way to the uncatchable tower which could only be seen but never reached and its name and fame grew...one day Halifiren Arothion felt a strange and powerful feeling running through his veins like he hadn't felt for several moons and rushed to the secret entrance of the stairway...there stood an elf with the looks of the solemn and untamed warriors that fought with him in the Fall of the City...the elf was Legolad Celebpilin'...the two elves talked for days and nights and Legolad told Halifirien about the rising menace in his homelands and about his will to recruit the best warriors to face the threat. Halifirien had finally found an answer to the dream he made every night in which he used to see a never ending nightfall...this perfectly matched with Legolad's words "Guild of Eternal Night"...Halifiren had found his fate, and with a last look at the ebony tower, he followed Legolad Celebpilin'...with him only his ivory and steel bow and Kyra...
