TOGIAN ISLAND

This archipelago of pristine coral and volcanic isles in the middle of Teluk Tomini is a riot of blue, gold and green. The undisturbed jungle shelters a variety of wildlife. The islands' reefs support a rich diversity of marine life and the seven or so ethnic groups sharing this place are hospitable. Although the island are difficult to reach, and the facilities are basic, many travelers fall in love with the Togian, and their lifestyle - and often end up staying a lot longer than they anticipated.

Diving and Snorkeling

The Togians are the only one place in Indonesia where you can find all three major reef environments - atoll, barrier, and fringing - in one location. Two atolls and their deep

lagoons lie off the north - west of Pulau Batu Daka. Barrier reef surrounds many island at the 200m depth contour ( five to 15km offshore ), and fringing reefs surround all of the coasts, merging with the sea grass and mangroves. There is also at least one sunken WWII bomber plane, which is a couple of hours by speed boats from kadidiri.The mix of coral and marine life is spectacular and unusually diverse. The more conspicuous residents include gaily marked coral lobster, a colony of dugong, school of hundred or more dolphins, the occasional great whale, commercially important species of trepang and natural pearls.
