| Captain Auditions |
| There is not a specific date and time set for captain auditions. The captain is chosen when the guard instructor observes the presence of a natural leader within the color guard. This means always be on your toes in and outside of guard rehearsal because you never know who is watching! |

| The selection process is based on natural leadership, fairness, and a passion for color guard. All returning members are eligible for the captain position regardless of year in school or years on guard.
All other requirements for guard membership apply. |
| The selected captain must attend a summer camp to learn and practice the responsibilities of being a color guard captain. Currently, the camp of choice is a weekend camp in Mountain View, MO called Spintronics where campers sleep over for a weekend and attend instructional sessions.
The cost of this camp may have to be provided in whole or in part by the captain, unless the money is available from the band funds. |
| The responsibilities of the guard captain may include, but are not limited to;
- being a good role model for the guard and the rest of the band. - taking charge of practice when the guard instructor or band director is not present. - collecting grieviances from the guard members to present to the instructor or band director. - warming the guard up before rehearsal. |
| Some of the benefits of the guard captain position include, but are definitely not limited to;
- Attending the drum major's retreat to receive awards at competitions. - Acting as a representative of the band. - Leadership skills for your college applications and resume. - Captain's pin for the letter jacket and/or guard jacket. |
| It is possible for the guard captain to be relieved of her position if she is seen unfit to fulfill it by either the guard instructor or band director. This will only be done in extreme situations. |
