Pizza Ovens

Create a Method of Baking from using simple pie pans.

Our sister troop, troop 1140, needed a cheap way to bake goodies.  We put our heads together and developed several ideas.  The one that won uses three pie pans and aluminum foil

To make a pizza oven, spread your dough thinly and evenly in a pie pan that has been sprayed with oil.  If you leave it too thick, you end up with a doughy center.  Put your sauce, toppings and cheese on the dough.  Take a second pie pan and turn it upside down placing it on the bottom of the first one.  Wrap foil over the top and down the sides of the two pans.  Make sure your foil is tight on top and the bottom pan is left open at the bottom.  Take about three to five white hot coals and put your pizza oven on them.  The heat is held in by the bottom pie pan.  Heat will penetrate through the pie pans to heat your pizza from the bottom.  The coals shouldn't be piled in the center of the bottom of the pan but spread out under the pan.  Spread another 5-6 white hot coals on the top of the foil covering your pizza.  This will heat the pizza from the top and heat from both the bottom and top makes it a good oven.  Sing  two grace songs  or more to time your pizza.  Listen for the sizzles and let it sizzle for 10 to 15 minutes while you sing.   When you open it, be careful not to spill ashes into the pizza.  If it needs more time, put the foil and charcoal back on and sing another song.  This method works well with thin breads and precooked meat pizza toppings
