Going for the Silver

The requirements include earning three interest projects, completing the challenge, earning the leadership interest project, completing five career activities and leading your project.

The Girl Scout Challenge

The challenge is one of the steps to the Silver Award.  The purpose is to find out more about yourself. 

  1. Knowing Myself Better- One says to try something new which sounds like fun. -We experimented with foil pizza cooking methods. Sept. 2001
  2. Relating to Others Better-Plan and carry out a party for others at a nursing home, hospital, or some other group in the community.
  3. Developing Values for Living-Take an active part in planning a Girl Scouts' Own ceremony.  We will do this on the April campout.
  4. Contributing to my Community-Made worm farms for children at the after-school program. Oct. 2001
  5. Knowing about Girl Scouting-Assist your council's efforts in attracting new members.  Done by making our display boards which were used at the roundup. Sept 2001

Career Activities

You may choose any five career activities from the badge book. Here are the ones we will do in the troop meetings.

  1. Exploring the Net Substitute-Look at how the internet is affecting school work.  Talk to an internet college professor.  Could these same techniques be used in your school.  What skills are required? Done at the trip planning meeting at NE campus in January 2002
  2. Plant Life-Interview a greenhouse grower or visit a florist.
  3. Sports for Life-Make a poster promoting a sports career in scouting for the girls at Normandy
  4. Emergency Preparedness-Prepare a flyer with information on common household emergencies.
  5. Architecture and Environmental Design-Interview an architect or designer- Both Mr. Tam and Mr. Braoddus are  in this field.


Interest Patches (Badges)

You must also earn any three interest patches plus the leardership interest patch listed on page 38 of your book.  We have included plans for the leadership patch on the menu to the left.
