Kangaroo Point climbing: map, directions, and information Here

Climbing nights 2006 TBA

GRUBS membership can also be organised at kangaroo point

What's new for GRUBS 2006

2006 looks to be another great year for GRUBS with potential for a lot of bushwalking, paddling, and climbing. For those new to GRUBS we encourage you to come along, join up and make some friends as we explore South-East Queensland.

GRUBS has a Climbing wall! $2 per climbing session until costs are recovered, great for training and technique! Talk to the GRUBS climbing co-ordinator for more information.

Over the previous few years, GRUBS has collected a nifty cache of maps, books and other paraphernalia oriented toward getting grubby. Armed with this ever expanding resource, we encourage members to run their own trips as well as getting involved with those run by the club. All club resources are at members disposal for this purpose.

GRUBS has a Message board which can be used to organise your own trips, find information on upcoming trips both run by GRUBS and other affiliated clubs, and even sell your outdoor gear.

Last year we trialed a photo competition based on photos submitted to the website photo gallery... results will be announced by email at the start of first semester for the winner of the K2 gift voucher.

Of course, if you just want to come along and get GRUBBY then visit the Trips page for details of upcoming excursions into the outdoors.

Activities

See trips page or the message board for upcoming activities. Check the photo gallery for pictures of past trips.

Bushwalking
GRUBS was founded as a bushwalking club in 1979. To this day we remain active walkers enjoying the great oppertunities offered by the national parks of South East Queensland. Within a few hours drive of brisbane lie Springbrook national park, Lamington national park, Main Range national park, the Moogerah peaks, and many other great walking areas. GRUBS makes use of these parks on bushwalks for all levels of experience from the scenic graded trails of Springbrook to the rugged wilderness of lamington so strap on your boots and join us!
Sea kayaking

Sea Kayaking is one of the most serene ways to experience the open ocean. It also provide a means to access and explore remote creeks and waterways. Sea kayaking trips from past years have included two day paddles up the noosa river to 'Harrys Hut' and a week long island hopping adventure in the Whitsundays.

White water kayaking
White water kayaking is one of the most exciting activities that GRUBS does as a club and it offers enthusiasts unique oppertunities to make use of the club boats and equipment for little to no cost. Once a year a pilgrimage is made to Goolang creek near Grafton on the North coast of New South Wales. Here experienced paddlers from the club induct beginners into whitewater basics over a two day weekend. After Goolang paddlers make the most of rains in the rivers around Brisbane and have been known to go as far afield as Carins in search of big water.
Rock Climbing

GRUBS most popular and arguably most challenging activity is Rock Climbing. Making use of the 20m cliffs left over from an old quarry in the heart of Brisbane GRUBS climbs weekly at Kangaroo Point (Wednesday night, 6-9:30pm, during semester) click here for information.

GRUBS also has a new six meter bouldering wall for training, technique, and fun! Talk to the climbing coordinator for more info.

GRUBS climbers are also active outside of brisbane making regular trips to Frog Buttress, the Glass House mountains, and Brooyar state forest.

The highlight of the climbing year is holiday trips to Nowra, Arapiles, and the end of year stay in the Blue Mountains
