EATING AFFECTS LEARNING
Subject: BIOLOGY
PHYSICS MANAGEMENT & GEOGRAPHY
Grade Level: SENIOR
SECONDARY SCHOOL, LEVELS: 1, 2 & 3
Introduction:
It has been clear
throughout the project lesson taught, “ a sound mind is in a healthy body”
the dietary requirement of human changes. This depends on their sex, age,
activity, body size and the temperature of the environment. The balance
diet for a student must contain carbohydrates, protein, fat, water, vitamins
and mineral salts and dietary fibre in the correct proportion. The biology
aspect looked at balance diet, its component and their importance to the
developing mind of students. The physics aspect looked at the malnutrition
example lack of vitamin A that results in bad vision “ night blindness”
and as such illumination will also affect learning. The management aspect
looked at how to manage time of eating and the amount of food eating before
learning. While the geography aspect worked on the survey using questionnaire
to assess an authentic broad based data from people about how eating affects
learning.
LESSON
GOALS
-
Student must understand the
need to take in a balanced diet with all the seven classes of food containing
all the essential nutrients, students must know and share with their peers
that the brain needs nutrients to develop and consumes a lot of energy
from nutrients for its function.

Student must know and share
with their peers that an unbalanced diet can lead to poor brain development
and sickness which can even keep one out of school in the state of malnutrition.

Students must know that the
amount of food they take in, whether balanced or unbalanced diet at the
wrong time can make one lazy and especially if it is just before a class
or learning, the energy needed to digest the food is a lot just as the
brain needs to process and store information.

Students must be able to use
their knowledge from a lesson taught to develop questionnaire administer
it analyze it and present the out come in a magazine or newsprint.

Students must be able to utilize
technological tools: Internet resources, process words, analyze data, and
present the out come using the computer.

Understand
the relationship that exists between appropriate timing of meals and proper
functioning of the human body that has a direct link to ones productivity
as a student.

Teachers
and students must be able to develop a WebPages of their work so that the
whole world can gain from their knowledge.
