  BALANCE DIET 


Introduction

Human diets have changed with civilization, evolution of diet through the hunter-gatherer about a million years ago, and an agriculturist about 10000 years ago to modern man of the industrial society. Not only that but dietary requirements of human changes and depends on their sex, age, activity, body size and the temperature of their external environment. This depicts the amount of food taken in (thus less food is eaten per individual in warm climate). Every human requires a daily intake of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and mineral source, water and roughage (dietary fibre). But their proportion depends on a number of factors for us it is the activities the individual undertakes 

Subject and Grade level:  SSS 1,2 AND 3 

AGE: 15-19 years 

Lesson Goals

  •  To understand the various components of a balance diet and their function
  •  To explain the importance of eating balance diet before learning 
  •  To clearly understand the type of diet for students
  •  To indicate the importance of sound mind in a healthy body 
Content Objectives

At the end of the lesson the student must be able to

  • define a balance diet 
  • State the importance of a balance diet for effective learning
  • Access from the internet more information on balance diet
  • State the components of a balance diet and 
  • Indicate their functions 
  • Write a simple ingredient of a balance dietFor a student and if possible prepare it and bring it to school 
Performance Objectives

Students in the course of learning must be able to

  • Use MS word to process the information he or she gathered
  • Use educational software’s like Netherhall Education Software
  • access more information using search engines on the internet to  ague out what a balance diet is 
  • programme on balance your diet 
  • Use Power Point software to present in a single form what he or she has understood 
Technology Objectives

The content of the lesson must enable students to 

· Understand the nutrients present in a balance diet 
· Know the functions of the nutrients and their proportions in the balance diet 
· Know how all the nutrients in the balance diet are important to the healthy development of the brain   and the human body as a whole 
· Understand that without essential nutrients to develop a healthy body learning is almost impossible 

Actional Activities (teacher component) 

      In teaching this topic I would read from books and download more information from the Internet on diet and process them using MS Word. I would then transfer them into slides on power point software on drive C.  Each slide would carry a content objective and its corresponding performance objective with a footnote of a website resource address so that when online it can be assessed whiles teaching. 

Learning Activities (student component) 

Students must contribute their ideas into the lesson, and ask necessary questions to unearth the meaning of the content objectives so that the lesson goals would be possible if students could assess the Internet and do group discussions. Individual students must be able to prepare a simple balance diet for students for the class to eat 

Instructional Strategies
-To make sure that the lesson goals are achieved;
1) Materials for teaching must be prepared before hand 
2) Hand outs must be given to the students to read and discuss before class 
3) Already prepared different types of meals must be established in class 
4) Short verbal quiz can keep the class alert 

Project Assessment
Class assessment would be done with verbal quiz, class work and homework Ability to assess information from the websites, using search engines to express their understanding of the lesson with personal experience. Ability to design a questionnaire with MS Word and analysis data with MS Excel Individual contribution to discussion and conclusion: Students will work individually and in groups During the working time students would be made to assess the pears  performance at about 20%. The group performance would be assessed by the manner at above 30%. Class objective test would be use to assess individual students at about 20% Class project activity by each student on subtopics of the main project topic  Eating effect learning will be assessed at about 30%.

-Download WebPages on nutrition, essentially on balance diet -Software on nutrition 
-A computer with necessary software  -Foodstuff to prepare a balance die 
-A hand out prepared to guide a student on; 
1) Guidelines step to step work schedule 
2) Time framework 
3) On activities necessary to enhance the project 
4) Laboratory work (kitchen)
5) Precautions 
6) Steps to cook 
7) Preparing it for school
