TIME OF EATING AND AMOUNT OF FOOD TAKEN


Introduction

Based on students¡¦ daily experiences on types of meals they take at particular times, ask a few students to briefly tell the class what and how much food they take at a particular point in time.

Subject and Grade level: :      S.S.S. 1 (One)

Lesson Goals

  • · Appreciate the need to manage time effectively so far as eating is concerned.
  • · Know the appropriate time schedule(s) for the major meals taken in a day.
  • · Know how much food to take at a particular time.
  • · Realize the adverse effect of eating too much food on one’s productivity (learning).]
  • · Appreciate the adverse effect that eating in-between meals can have on the human body.
Content Objectives
  • · Determine the normal or appropriate time for the major meals taken in a day.
  • · Know the effect of eating too much food
  • · Know the adverse effect of eating in-between meals.
  • · Understand the relationship that exists between appropriate timing of meals and proper  functioning of the human body which has a direct link to ones productivity as a student.
Performance Objectives
  • · Identify the appropriate time for the major meals taken in a day.
  • · Discuss the adverse effect that eating in-between meals could have on the human body.
  • · Determine the effect of eating too much on the human system and on ones productivity.
  • · State the amount of food that could be taken by an individual at a time.
  • · Access more information from the Internet website on the topic.
Technology Objectives
  • · Access relevant information on the topic from the Internet using Search Engines.
  • · Process the gathered materials or information using MS Word.
  • · Submit their work to teacher via E-mail.
Instructional Activities (teacher component) 

Puts students into 10 groups of 5. Each allocated to a PC and prepares the groups for the lesson.Introduces the topic and guides students to discuss the topic in the contest of the content and performance objectives set. Each stage of the lesson is discussed with guided questions and tips typed on slides.Helps students to make short notes and helps them through the process of searching for relevant resources on the topic for further work.Give students group work to be done on the Internet using what has been discussed in (4) above. To be submitted at the next lesson.

In groups brainstorm and react to teacher’s questions„
« Discuss problems with teacher at every stage of the lesson „
« Make short notes and follow teacher in learning how to locate relevant resources on a given topic.„
« Collaborate and decide on when and how to gather the needed information from the areas provided by teacher. 

Instructional Strategies

Collaborative group work.„
« Intermittent thought provoking questions to keep students active throughout the lesson.„
« Allowing students to discuss briefly in groups problems posed and inviting group views on the problems.

Personal Computers (with Internet connection), Overhead Projector for lesson presentation, Handouts prepared from relevant Internet websites and reference books and Floppy Disks.
