Program Description

This 15-credit graduate-level certificate program offered by NJCU’s College of Education is designed to increase  the knowledge and skills of those in business and industry, elementary and secondary education, higher education, health care, and government.  The program's goal is to enable students to use technologies to enhance the learning capabilities of their students, employees, and customers.  Students will have the unique opportunity to learn the content of distance education through the process of distance education. It is offered completely on-line with no residency requirement.

The Distance Education Certificate program builds knowledge, skills, and leadership in distance/online education and training through a curriculum of core courses that cover distance teaching, learning, technology, instructional design, evaluation, learner support, and management. Through a flexible, learner-centered curriculum, the program integrates core knowledge with practical applications in work settings.  A Certificate in Distance Education is earned upon completion of the program.

With the continuing development of the Internet and related technologies, distance education opportunities are expanding rapidly. At the same time, more and more companies are searching out cost-effective alternatives to traditional workshops and conferences that require employees to leave the workplace. Certification in this field positions students for career advancement.  Each course is taught using a combination of Web technology, print, and other media to provide flexibility and interaction. Distance learning provides students with the opportunity to learn on their own time, at their own pace, and in their location of choice.
