When the trio finally got to the hospital they were in better spirits, they
had stopped at Greg's favorite coffee shop and picked him up a new fresh supply of Blue Hawaiian.
While they were they picked up a steaming extra large to take to the
hospital for him to enjoy and the most delectable sweet for him to eat.
When they got to the hospital they were in much better spirits than when they had left earlier in the day.
They went to reception to find out where Greg had been moved to because when they had left they hadn't had a bed for him yet.
The receptionist on duty gave them the floor and wing number. Nick found this kind of strange because there wasn't a room number listed for them. He didn't say anything though he didn't want to worry Greg's mom and sister.
When they got to the wing in question the answer became clear as day and floored the three of them. The words on the wall in front of them said ICUCC.
They just stood there in a state of shock, this couldn't be happening, they couldn't believe it.
They tried to enter the unit but couldn't the doors were locked Nick located the call button and they told the nurse who they were here to see. They were informed that Greg could have only one visitor at a time.
Greg's mom went in first to see what was happening and disregarding the instructions Mary forced her way in as well. She explained why she was coming in and that if they wanted to have another immediate patient they should let Emily go in by herself but that they better have the stretcher there to catch her from the heart attack she was likely to have going in there by herself.
At this statement and the tenacious expression from both Sander's women the nurse sighed and said you both can go in but just 5 minutes maximum and I will be counting.
They went in to see Greg.
It was a good thing that Mary had insisted to go in because one look at Greg in the hospital bed before them made Emily collapse into her daughter's arms.
The nurse's saw this happening and quickly came to there aid. Next all
everyone could hear were pounding fists on the outer doors to the unit.
"Get Security up here now there is a crazy man trying to break into the
unit." Yelled Nurse Crackett.
"No don't you dare that is my son's husband he has been watching us thru the glass now let him in before he calls in the police himself. He works for CSI" exclaimed Emily. "Or he breaks the door down to see what has happened to both of us."
The nurses ran and cancelled the alarm and buzzed Nick in.
He immediately ran to Emily's side and thru the doorway say his lover and the sight made him scream in shock and dismay.
There was Greg hooked up to IV's and heart monitors as well as oxygen. To make matters worse there was a catheter in place. This was clearly evident from the urine bag hanging from the bedside.
"What happened to Greg, we want to know now and no bullshit, or funny stuff." Nick demanded to the nurses in front of them.
"We will have to wait for Dr. Fitzgerald to come on for rounds to give you the whole story." Nurse Crackett explained "I can tell you the bare facts but the doctor will have to fill you in on the particulars."
"Why isn't Dr. Watkin's involved with Greg's care he was the ER staff when we left this morning?" Mary asked.
"Dr. Watkin's specialty is ER medicine but Dr. Fitzgerald is the top ICU doctor at this hospital and when Dr. Watkin's knew there was a problem he was the first one he called." Explained Nurse Crackett.
"My next question is why were none of us informed that something had happened to Greg? All numbers were left for emergency contact purposes." Nick asked shaking with fury.
"Is your number @@@-@@@@? We tried to contact you at 3:30pm but there was no answer on your home line and looking at your contact info none of you gave cell numbers." Nurse Crackett told them and then showed them the contact sheet.
They all stood there in shock and Nick nodded "Yes that is my home phone number and we had just left when you must have placed the call."
"That makes no difference now PLEASE TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SON!!!" Emily screamed.
