There are 100 vocabulary words for Esperanza Rising, and as a result of this being a 5 week lesson plan, that equates to 20 words per week. I would suggest giving the students 5 words each day to define, identify the part of speech, and create a sentence using the words (or find and copy the sentence from the novel that uses the word). On Thursday of each week, I generally conduct a review of the students' vocabulary words via a game. Some teachers just use notecards, but I like to create a game involving the notecards. One of the games that I have used in the past is Vocabulary Baseball, and a brief description can be found here. The following is a series of links to the quizzes for each week's words as well as a list of the 100 words along with the page numbers on which the appear in the book. A word document containing all 100 words can be found here and the PDF file can be found here.
