The Rules:
NOTE to: newbies and multiple applicants vying for one character -- you will need to submit a sample bio/mock entry for your desired character or short piece or your writing showing the way you portray the character so we can decide on who to choose. :D Best to make it good, naturally. You've all got stiff competition! (No crude jokes, people, that wasn't a pun . . . okay, maybe it was. Ehh.) So basically, email us a mock entry. Flattery will get you everywhere uh . . . you didn't see that. No, seriously, you didn't.
YOU WILL ABIDE BY THE CLASS SCHEDULE! . . . Unless you want to die a most painful death, of course. Your mods didn't spend hours tweaking the things to perfection so you could ignore them! :D

All posts made to the main RPG journal (greenhousethree) should be posts you want everyone to see and respond to. Posts made in your own personal journal may also be replied to by other players unless the post is designated "private" or "Owl to Whoever."
Use the GH3 friends page to scan everyone else in the community's posts -- this way, everyone can see your entries along with everyone else's posts, which makes responding and whatnot all that much easier. If a post is meant to be seen by a specific character, put it in a cut-tag post, like this:
< lj-cut text="Owl To Whoever" >
Write your post in here (don't forget to make sure the < and > tags are closed -- no spaces between the tags and the words!) then close up the tag with:
< /lj-cut >
THIS WILL BE SLASHY. You have been warned. We accept het as well, because not every character needs to be flamboyantly gay (*coughBlaisecough*) because that kills everything. Uh . . . yeah.
Also, some of the characters existing in the universe may have already graduated/been fired and re-hired, etc., but hey -- whatever, right? We can have whatever the hellmonkey we want around here. Any character you can make to fit, somehow, you can have. Anyone. Except OCs (original characters) because damn it, they make everything annoying and we do not like them, Sam I Am! There are plenty of characters already listed you can turn into whatever or whoever you'd like, so please, just use one of them if you need to have an OC so badly! :D
Any character not on the list may still be used; ask and an account will be created for you. (Some are missing at this point due to our own laziness, as there are several characters we either forgot to add or plan to add at a later date.) Some characters aren't going to have as large a role as others, naturally (so if you choose one of these characters don't complain about lack of "screen time" later!). As such, you may request more than one character -- but don't get crazy, now. Or greedy.
Characters are expected to behave in canon (as they would in the HP books) as much as possible. Naturally, there are exceptions (such as slash, other relationships/pairings and the fact that Potter and Malfoy, among others, are running a Mandrake Brothel in the greenhouses: not canon, but fun all the same!). Players are asked to please use proper grammar and capitalization, punctuation, etc. when at all possible, unless your character is notorious for being stupid (Crabbe)/illiterate (Goyle)/net speak-y (Pansy), for example. Given the nature of this RPG, I assume only people A) who are probably older and/or B) who are young but love it anyway will be applying/playing, but there's no foolproof way to tell. If there are multiple requests for one character, the deciding vote will be cast after each candidate has proven themselves, most likely by submitting a sample of their way of portraying the character (but I bet we won't have any trouble, because most of the ones everyone wants are already taken . . .).
Grounds for removal:
If there are any problems, i.e. vicious, nasty and pointless fighting amongst players either in character or not, you may be asked (or ordered) to relinquish your character. So far, the lot of us aren't too bitchy, so no worries. It's highly unlikely that it'll come to this point. :D
If you suck, we may be forced to replace you. Hopefully you're clever enough to fool us for a long enough period of time that this will be difficult for us and thus, allow you to keep your position, but hey, we can and will purge you if need be.
Not posting semi-regularly. It is unfair to all players when one (or two or three, etc.) player(s) ignore the game for an obscene amount of time. Emailing and promising to post then procrastinating and never doing so still counts as not posting. Think of it this way: would your teacher accept an "Oh, I'm SO sorry I didn't get my homework done, I promise to do it tonight and I'll have it first thing tomorrow morning! :D:D" from you repeatedly? Of course not! Just like your teacher, we also catch onto your scheme. If you're just wibbly about giving up the character because you've grown attached, we may be able to set up a temporary situation to keep the flow of the game going while you drift into oblivion. Otherwise, say buh-bye.
Finally, if by the off-chance you ARE asked to leave, you are expected to turn in your journal, so the continuity of the game is not interrupted by us having to make new journals and get everyone to re-friend the new player's journal. The only exceptions to this are, of course, if the journal you use to RPG here is one you brought in or paid for yourself. If it's one we gave you/gave you the code for, you will return it, no questions asked. This is not negotiable.
For icons to use with your characters: we can help you find them! (Unless you're familiar with creating icons and can manage it yourself.)
Major note: anyone applying for a character is asked to please use one of the pre-made accounts already created, or create one with "gh3_charactername," unless you have an acceptable, obvious character name already created/in use. A custom color scheme of your choice can be arranged for your personal journal if you'd like, along with the codes for changing the comments phrases, the page title, etc. Email us and the password to the pre-made account will be provided upon acceptance to the RPG, unless you have one of your own that has been approved for use in the forum.
