PAST NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS -- 2006-2007 Academic Year

-Posted by Tara, June 4th, 10:30 PM-
Wow... I can't believe how the quarter came and went already! I just wanted to let everyone know that the last meeting of the 2006-2007 school year will be this Friday, June 8th. And we will be having our usual potluck to celebrate! As always, please let us know what you're going to bring via the message board here:

End of Year Potluck Thread

I strongly urge everyone who's been to club on and off during the year to come; it'd be great to see everyone one last time before the summer begins! Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday...

-Posted by Tara, April 3rd, 5:20 PM-
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing spring break... ^_^ Meetings will reconvene this quarter beginning this Friday, April 6th. We will hold our meetings at the usual time and place: weekly on Friday from 6:30 to 10:00 PM in Watkins 2240. We will be finishing off all of the series we've been watching all year (whoo hoo!), but if you look at the tentative schedule, we still have plenty of room for other series and/or movies this quarter. If you have any suggestions for filling in those gaps, please post in this thread:

Spring Quarter '07 Schedule

Please be sure to drop by this week's meeting to help us decide what other activities/contests we should hold this quarter! Thanks. :)

-Posted by Tara, March 10th, 7:00 PM-
It's already time for the final meeting of the quarter! We will be holding our traditional final meeting potluck, as well as the prize drawing for all members who participated in the forum posting contest. ^_^

If you havent done so already, please let the club know what youre going to bring for this weeks potluck here:

Final meeting potluck March 16th!

In addition, the forum posting contest will continue until this Thursday, March 15th. The contest will end that evening at 11:59 PM PST. So keep posting if youd like additional entries into the contest!

Ive also started some new threads in our forum, so please let us officers know what you think on those topics. In particular I encourage everyone to post their impressions in the Rate these anime series! #2 thread, so we know what to consider showing spring quarter and beyond:

Rank these anime series! #2

Look forward to seeing you all Friday!

To make the forum posting contest more accessible, I've revised the rules! From this point onward, every post you make in the Greenwood Film Society Forum will determine how many times your name is entered into the drawing. So please post in any of the threads in the GFS forum, or start your own! For the revised set of rules, go here:

GFS Quarterly Forum Posting Contest!

I don't mind giving incentives to get the ball rolling regarding club feedback, and I hope it's more fun for everyone too! :)

-Posted by Tara, February 1st, 8:15 PM-
To kick off the beginning of February, Greenwood has decided to hold a contest open to all members on the forum! Basically, the contest works like this: every time a member makes a post (according to guidelines) in the GFS Anime Recommendation Thread, his or her name will be entered into a drawing we will be holding at the final meeting of the quarter. For example, if one member posts seven times in the thread before the final meeting, that person's name will be entered into the drawing seven times! When we hold the drawing, we will draw three different names and those people will get to choose prizes from the club prize box. :) To see what kinds of prizes Greenwood has for members to choose from, and/or if you have any questions or comments about the contest, please post them in this thread here:

GFS Quarterly Forum Posting Contest

If we see enough entries in this contest, we'll hold a similiar contest next quarter. The officers mainly designed this contest to encourage you all to interact on the forum, so we hope that you'll help breathe life into the boards by making posts and replying to threads in the other forums too. ^_^ We also hope this thread will be useful by giving you all information about a myriad of series, not to mention particular members' tastes.

A very Happy New Year to everyone! Welcome back to UCR... we'll be having meetings this winter quarter once again every Friday in Watkins 2240 from 7 PM to 10 PM. We will continue Ouran High School Host Club, Mushishi, Black Lagoon and Yakitate!! Japan as well as start some as-of-yet undecided new series. If you have any suggestions, please post them on the forums. Look forward to seeing you our first meeting: this Friday, January 12th!

-Posted by Tara, November 30th, 11:30 PM-
Wow, time flies! I hope everyone had a wonderful and very filling Thanksgiving holiday. :) Meetings resume tomorrow, 12/1. And our final meeting will be the week after on 12/8.

Speaking of final meeting, we will be holding our traditional end of quarter potluck on December 8th. For more info, please visit this thread on the forums:

Final Meeting Potluck 12/8!

Please post what you're going to bring, and please come to tomorrow's meeting so we can discuss what the club wants to do about a main dish!

-Posted by Tara, November 9th, 11:30 PM-
I'd just like to remind everyone that there is NO MEETING FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10th in honor of Veteran's Day. For those of you coming along on the shopping trip tomorrow, meet us at the front of LOT 6 at 9:00 AM on campus. We'll be leaving by 9:30, so please be prompt!

-Posted by Tara, November 1st, 10:32 PM-
For everyone interested in attending the Anime Shopping Trip next Friday, November 10th, please come to this week's meeting! We will be discussing trip details and assigning rides then. Thanks.

I've updated the "schedule" and "activities" pages with more accurate info regarding our weeking screenings and special events.

But what I really want to let everyone know is that our 5th Annual Halloween Cosplay Contest will be taking place at this week's meeting on October 27th! For more information on how the contest will work, please see this thread on the forums:
Greenwood's 5th Annual Halloween Cosplay Contest

If you plan on participating in the contest, please e-mail or PM me on the forums to let me know who you're cosplaying as, along with the series/game/manga etc. that character is from. Thanks! ^_^

Also, we've decided that since there are too many anime related shops we'd like to visit and not enough time in one day to hit them all, we're going to have not one but TWO shopping trips this quarter! For information regarding our destinations for each trip, see this thread:
LA Anime Shopping Trip Info

If you would like to attend one or both trips, please let us know in one or both of the threads below. We're especially in need of members with cars to transport those members without, so please consider driving if you can do so, as it would really help us out!
First Shopping Trip ROLL CALL!
Second Shopping Trip ROLL CALL!

Finally, as the date for the second trip has not yet been decided, we'd like to ask for each club member's input on the matter. So if you would like to attend the second shopping trip, put down the date(s) you can attend, and we will select the date that works with the most members' schedules. (Right now we're thinking December 2nd might work... let us know what you think!)

ATTENTION: We have a NEW forum!

http://www.videoburn.org/forum/index.php

So we'd really appreciate it if everyone could migrate and re-register on the new board: introduce yourself in the "Meet the Inmates" forum to help us get started again! We apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope this new board will be more useful in communicating club information to our members. (I'm already putting events into the calendar! ^_^) The old forum is here.

Also, I've uploaded an updated library list on the library page. Please download it and see if there's anything you'd like to borrow! As always, e-mail me by Thursday night so I know what to bring for you Friday. :)

Welcome back to UCR for the 2006-2007 academic year! I can't believe it's time to hit the books already... but on the flip side, it also means that we'll be meeting weekly once again!

As Brandon has posted on the forums, we will be meeting weekly on Fridays in Watkins 2240 from 6:30 to 10:00 PM.

We will be continuing old favorites:
Monster
Yakitate!! Japan
Twelve Kingdoms

...Along with beginning new ones:
Black Lagoon
Mushishi
Ouran High School Host Club

I've completely updated the website, with the exception of the library list (need to add more titles) and the weekly schedule (I'm not sure what eps. we're on for the series we're continuing from last year). I've added a tentative schedule concerning our special events/activities, and I'm happy to report that we will be continuing our October holiday tradition by holding our 5th Annual Halloween Cosplay Contest on October 27th! So please take a look around the site to get a quick idea of what we'll be doing this quarter.

As always, please visit the forums for up-to-date information... But we fervently hope that you will introduce yourself and use the forums not only to chat with other members, but to share your opinions and suggestions concerning the club and its activities. One thing we really want to work on this year is getting everyone more involved, so we'll greatly appreciate anyone who is willing to help us work toward that goal. ^_^

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday!
