Greenwood Film Society
NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS -- Spring 2003

-Posted by Tara, June 16th, 1:00 AM -
Hey everyone! Looks like finals have come and gone to bring the final quarter of the school year to a close...

So Greenwood would just like to thank all of its members for making the meetings fun, enjoyable and often times memorable this past year! Many thanks to Loven for running the club meetings -- buying ALL of the equipment for the showings (including DVD's!), Don for always setting up the equipment at each meeting and posting flyers advertising both Greenwood and VideoBurn in the dorms, Tom for putting many of our showing schedule onto tape for us, Tom and Steve for donating RIDICULOUS amounts of money to keep the club events moving, Monette and Steve for posting the flyers every week, Cecilia and Christine for doing the bulk of the work on the banners for Discover Days, Nick & Brandon and the rest of the crew for "speaking" on behalf of the club at Discover Days ;), JP for the "post meeting" entertainment, everyone that dressed up for the cosplay nights, donated money and brought food for all of our potlucks, brought their systems and games for video game nights... I could go on and on! I think it's pretty obvious, but the club really couldn't exist without EVERY club member's support and cooperation! I really am just so happy to see the club come together the way it has this past year, and I hope everyone made new friends through the experience as well!

In closing, I would just like to say that I really look forward to seeing everyone again next year, and I hope that the club was just as fun and memorable as it was for the officers! In the meantime, for those of you around during the summer, we will be having get-togethers throughout the summer. Be sure to check the forum for activities and dates! We will need your feedback to bring everything together (as per usual). I hope you all have a great summer, and see you in the fall! ^_^

-Posted by Tara, June 1st, 1:40 AM -
ADDENDUM: Club t-shirts will be available for pick-up at this week's meeting! So for those of you that ordered one, please be sure to stop by and grab your t-shirt, as I REALLY don't want to hold onto them all summer... Btw, they look great; I wore mine already on Friday (as some of you already noticed). ^_^

Looks like we're down to the last regular week of the quarter! The club would like to thank everyone that participated in our cosplay contest this past week... everyone's costumes were great! It was hard choosing my top three... Congrats are in order for our winners: 1st Place - Marisa (Digiko), 2nd Place - Don (Ikari Gendo), 3rd Place - Ben (Ranma-chan) and 4th Place - Mike (Priest from Final Fantasy Tactics). I hope everyone had a good time... I know I'm looking forward to the Halloween Cosplay Contest this coming fall quarter! ^_^

As most of you know, we will be having a potluck for the final meeting of the year *sob*. So for those of you that come to this week's meeting, there will be plenty of pizza for everyone! The club will be showing the final episode of Fruits Basket, as well as VideoBurn's own fandub project: dub hacked//sign ver. 2.0! This was actually shown the first week of the quarter at VideoBurn, but we thought it'd be great for those of you that didn't catch it to take a look at VideoBurn's handiwork. And if you have already seen it, this version is UPDATED! =)

Hey everyone, only two weeks left 'til the end of the quarter! And as you all know, we have some big events for the final two meetings of the year:

The Spring Quarter Cosplay Contest will be held at this week's meeting, Thursday, May 29th. We encourage everyone that has an anime, manga, video game or some kind of Japanese-related costume to dress up and join us! We will be awarding prizes as a very large incentive to cosplay... For more information, visit this page on our web board here. If you are dressing up, please bring a color pic of the character you're cosplaying as so we can better judge your costume. Thanks!

Club t-shirts will be ready to give out at the final meeting on June 5th! For those of you that haven't yet brought in your t-shirt payment, the deadline for doing so is at this week's meeting. I can't wait to pick up mine! ^_^

To celebrate the end of the school year, we are holding the final meeting potluck at (duh) next week's meeting. We've decided to purchase pizza and soda for the potluck, so if everyone can bring $2 to this week's meeting, it would be much appreciated. The more people that bring money, the more pizza we'll have to party with! ^_^

A number of announcements this time 'round:
The Greenwood and VideoBurn Anime Shopping Trip will take place next Saturday, May 24th. For more information, visit our forum here.

I would also like to post a reminder that our Spring Quarter Cosplay Contest will be held May 29th, a little less than three weeks from now. If you'd like to see what fabulous prizes we have for the contest, visit our forum here.

We're also working on getting club t-shirts printed! For an almost completed version of the design, please come to a future meeting for a look. I'll post the image here as soon as I can get my hands on it. Otherwise, check this thread in our forum for more information.

We'll also be having an "End of the Year" potluck during the final meeting on June 5th. (I sob at the very thought of Greenwood no longer meeting until the next school year... ;p) It will be done in the usual manner...monetary donations are much appreciated, or please bring one food or beverage item that night. We'll have a sign-up sheet in the coming weeks. ^_^

-Posted by Tara, April 15th, 5:15 PM -
We received the room confirmation for the Video Gaming Night today! The date will be as previously mentioned: next Friday, April 25th. So for those of you interested in coming, as well as members that are bringing systems/games, please come to this week's meeting and we'll discuss who's bringing what, along with the room location and time. Thanks! ^_^

Check it out! After a year-long hiatus, VideoBurn again has a web page thanks to Christine, and it looks great! ^_^ To visit their new site, go here:

http://www.rave-works.com/videoburn/

Greenwood and VideoBurn are participating in the spring quarter Discovery Days, which is an event run by UCR to recruit more students to our campus (like we need more with classroom crowding as bad as it is already...). But anyway, we'll be sharing a table this Wednesday, April 16th, as well as next Wednesday, April 23rd, from 11 AM to 1 PM in the Belltower area to promote our club. Feel free to drop by and say hi!

And finally, we have a tentative date for the Greenwood and VideoBurn Gaming Night: Friday, April 25th. We will confirm this date as soon as we have received the room reservation confirmation. If you would like to attend, please come to this week's and/or next week's meeting for exact location and time information, as this is a private event for clubgoers only!

-Posted by Tara, April 2nd, 2:45 PM -
Hey everyone! Hope you all had a fun, relaxing spring break. =) The first week of the quarter is now upon us, so I'd like to let everyone know that our first meeting will be this Thursday, April 3rd, from 6:30 to 9:45 PM. Do note that the room has changed to Olmstead 1136. Check the schedule page for directions and more information.

I've updated the activities page with a tentative schedule for the quarter; the club will be asking your opinion on these events at the coming meetings, so be sure to let us know what you think! I'll also be adding a few new library tapes to the list tonight for you to request this week. Looking forward to seeing everyone again tomorrow! ^_^

Oh yes, one more thing: please visit Greenwood Film Society's Web Forum for more information about the club and its activities. We have questions that we would like you members to answer! =)

NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS -- Winter 2003

Now that finals are upon us, the club would just like to wish everyone luck on their exams, and hope that you all have a wonderful, relaxing spring break!

For those of you that are interested, VideoBurn is scheduling a random anime & game meeting at UCR over the break. So if you'd like to attend, please visit the forum and go to the VideoBurn page section for more information.

The schedule page has also been updated with room, time, and tentative series information.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again next quarter! ^_^

I'm very pleased to announce that Greenwood now has a web forum! To visit our forum, here is the temporary link until it is added to the nav bar:

Greenwood Film Society's Web Forum

An enormous amount of thanks goes out to Jason for doing almost all of the work it took to create it. ^_^

Please stop by the board in the next couple of days, as us club officers would like to discuss the potluck we are holding this week in celebration of the end of the quarter. Thanks!

- Posted by Tara, February 20th, 12 AM -
The date has been finalized for the Greenwood and VideoBurn Anime Shopping Trip! The trip will take place Saturday, March 1st, so if you would like to come and have not already informed the club, please stay after the meeting tonight or come to next week's meeting so we can arrange a ride for you. For further details on the trip, please check the activities page.

On another note, if you haven't already, pick up this week's edition of the Highlander! There is an excellent article about our club, along with a lovely photograph! (I wish I was there for the picture, sob.) Congrats to Loven and Vijay for being quoted! ^_^

Just thought I should post the info for Videoburn's Valentine's Day Mystery Science Theater Night from their president, Michael. Hope some of you can make it tonight! ^_^

EVENT: Valentines' Mystery Science Theater Night
DATE: Wednesday, 2/12/2002
TIME: 6:30-10:00pm
ROOM: Watkins 1000

Everyone is invited. Sarcasm wanted! Bring a friend for a night of the worst Valentines' anime we could dig up! We may even show the worst episode in all of Noir... but that hasn't been decided yet. (We will more than likely dig up stuff that is MUCH worse!) Thanks all for supporting Anime on campus!

Vive Valeque,
Michael

ADDENDUM:
After talking with Jason, the tentative schedule is as follows:

  • Ninja Resurrection (this's just plain BAD)
  • M.D. Geist (because it has "hearts" in it ~_^)
  • City Hunter ep. 11, featuring a lovestruck midget and psychic baseball!
  • The dating sim ep. of Excel Saga...dubbed!
  • For your "yuri" (aka lesbian) viewing pleasure:
A very special ep. of Noir
  • Additional fanservice-laden possibilities:
The hot springs ep. of Outlaw Star
    An ep. of Mouse

If enough people come to the meeting, Jason will also graciously have the fandub parodies Evangelion: ReDeath and Fanboy Bebop for your viewing pleasure! Explore the origins of the "beemus," see the "best anime of all time!" and experience super pimp mackdaddy "It's GENDO" Ikari! You'll no longer be in the dark about our in-jokes post-meetings... =P

And for those of you unfamiliar with the term "Mystery Science Theater," it comes from a terrific science fiction movie whose basic premise is: three characters in a movie theater setting watching cheesy old sci-fi movies purely to make fun of them. Thus the anime chosen for this special meeting are for you all to rip apart at your leisure. ^_^

Whoo hoo! Ony two days until the Greenwood and Videoburn Gaming Night. If any club member would like to attend and doesn't yet know the date and time, please come to tomorrow's meeting to find out. :)

And for you library users, I added not 5, nor 10, but 20 new tapes to the library! I hope you'll find some of the new titles to your liking... My personal faves out of the bunch are Fancy Lala and One Piece. ^_^ I've also re-recorded Comic Party 1-4, Super GALS! Kotobuki Ran 1-5 and Porco Rosso, as some of you found problems with these tapes. Hopefully everything should be a-okay now. Let me know if you have any specific titles you'd like to see in the library!

- Posted by Tara, January 23rd, 2:40 AM -
The tentative date for the Greenwood and Videoburn Gaming Night has been confirmed. It will be as previously announced, next Friday, January 31st! The room and equipment have been reserved...we now ask everyone interested to stay after the meeting tonight. As aforementioned, this is a member-only event, so the details will not be given here on the web page. We would also like input on the games that we will have available, and if possible, for members to bring some of their own games for other members to try out. :)

I've also added a dozen tapes to the library, so if any club members are interested in borrowing a few of the new titles, I will be checking my e-mail until 5:30 PM today. I will be adding more tapes to the library next week, so be sure to check the library page for future updates! ^_^

Just wanted to let everyone know that we have a tentative date for the Greenwood and Videoburn Gaming Night: Friday, January 31st! If any club member would like to attend this event, please come to this and/or next week's meeting for details. This is a club member event only, so the information will not be placed here on the web page.

Also, I will be adding some new "items" ^o^ to the library page later tonight, so if members would like to borrow any of them, I will accept library requests via e-mail until tomorrow afternoon. The last time I will check the club e-mail for requests tomorrow will be 5:30 PM. Be sure to check the policies page for information on borrowing these new "items!" ^_^

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a lovely winter break, and (so far) a promising New Year! ^_^ Our first meeting will be this Thursday, and the information for our weekly showings has been newly updated on the schedule page. We have two new series this quarter: Witch Hunter Robin and my personal favorite, Maison Ikkoku! We hope that you'll enjoy these shows (and if not, please let us know so we don't have to torture you longer than necessary. :p) As you can see, I've also changed the navigation bar; a big thanks to Tom for designing and coding the buttons! And finally, there are now officer profiles on the "About Us" page for you all to check out. =)

Unfortunately, I did not make any new library tapes over the break... -_- However, I will try to add some tapes over the course of the quarter so there will be a few new titles for members to check out. I'm also working on a surprise addition to the library, so that will hopefully be listed on the library page in the next couple of weeks. If any of you have suggestions for what you'd like to see in the library, please let me know!

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday! ^_^

NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS -- Fall 2002

- Posted by Tara, December 3rd, 2:10 AM -

Looks like it's down to the final week of classes, and as you probably already know, the final meeting of the quarter *sniff*. We'll be finishing Onegai Teacher this week, and starting a couple of new series next quarter! Speaking of next quarter, we will be meeting in the same room, Watkins 1101, on Thursday evenings. But we'll be able to squeeze in an extra anime episode as we'll be starting at 6:40 instead of 7 PM. ^____^

I'll try to add more tapes to the library over the break, and for those of you that utilize the library, please let me know what kind of (or even specific) titles you'd like to see in there. ^_^ We have some other surprises in store for you library users as well...check the website over the break and see!

All of the officers at Greenwood wish all of you a wonderful, relaxing, anime-filled holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you Winter quarter, starting January 9th!

- Posted by Tara, November 25, 2:30 PM -

As you all may know, we have this Thursday and Friday off for the Thanksgiving holiday, so we will not be having any meeting this week. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all the final meeting of the quarter! ^_^

Look! I've updated the page! ^o^ I just wanted to let everyone know that details for the Greenwood and Videoburn Anime Shopping Trip have been finalized, so please check out the activities page for updated information. I would like to note that Animate will NOT be on our "shops to visit" list, as it is currently closed in preparation for a move somewhere in the Little Tokyo LA area. I know, I'm disappointed too, but hopefully they'll be open again for our next quarterly trip! ^_^

I'd also like to give everyone a link to some pics from Halloween Anime Cosplay Night! A huge thanks to Cecilia (aka Fujiko) for creating this page and sending us the link! Check out the banner! =) The club will also be uploading some other pics to a Yahoo! photo book, so as soon as that's finished (please be patient with us, we're slow), this page will be updated with the link.

Finally, I've added a couple of links to the links page and updated the library page with current tape status. About time I got some work done on this page, eh? ~_^

- Posted by Tara, October 24, 12:15 AM -

Made a couple of updates today...I added information about Halloween Cosplay Party Night and tentative information about the shopping trip to the activities page. So if you'd like to find out more details about both, please check it out! And do stay until the end of the meeting tonight, as we will be discussing both events further. ^_^

- Posted by Tara, September 30, 10:15 PM -

Welcome back, everyone! I trust the summer went well... ^_^ Now that UCR is back in session again, I have updated the page with the new schedule. This quarter, the meetings will be held, as usual, weekly on Thursday evenings. Our meeting room will be Watkins 1101, and the meeting time will be from 7:00 to 9:45 PM. The schedule page has been updated with this info, as well as the screening schedule for the first two meetings.

I would also like to let all of you "official" members know that library requests are open this week, so as per usual, do submit your library request by Wednesday evening so that I will have the tapes for you at this week's meeting. If you are new to the club, and would like to find out how to check out library tapes, go to the membership info page to learn about our library policies, and the steps to follow to become an "official" member. And do check out the library page, as it lists the tapes we currently have available for club members to borrow. ^_^

And on a final note, I would like to remind everyone attending our meetings to stay AFTER the screenings have ended. All club announcements will be made at the end of the meeting, so if you are interested in finding out about club discounts, parties, the quarterly shopping trip, video gaming night, etc., please stick around! ^_^

Looking forward to seeing you all at this week's meeting!

How's everyone's summer going? As I'm sure most of you can tell, the club doesn't hold meetings over the summer...too bad, isn't it? Well, for only a few of us. ~_^

But anyway, even though it'll be a month and a half before the first meeting, I did some major updating to the web page, including tentative information regarding meetings that start this fall quarter, an updated library list & membership policies, additional links, etc. So please take a look around and tell me what you think! I'd really like to know if I need to clarify anything on the site, or if there's something you think would add a nice touch.

As for me, I actually got back from an absolutely wonderful trip to Japan a couple of weeks ago, and am finally catching up on things. There are a number of e-mails I need to reply to in the inbox, so I hope to clear those out in the next week. So I'm sorry that I didn't reply sooner, but as you can tell, I was kinda sidetracked having a blast in Japan and everything. ^_^

That's it for this update, but when I find out more definitive schedule information, I'll be sure to update (somewhat) promptly.

-- Tara =)
