March 15, the Ides of March

Everyone mentions the Ides...well, anyone who is well read anyway.  Most people don't realize the Ides of March "way back then"  was actually the 13th on the Roman calendar.  Also, there was (is) an Ides for EVERY month, it simply refers to the middle of the month.  It's really not used anymore except in referance to poor JuliusCeaser.

My mother was born on this date.  She would be 56 if she were still living.  She died on Dec. 26th
1978 though, when she was just 29 and I was 8.  This picture of her at the top of the page was
taken just a few months before she died. We spent the last summer of that incarnation traveling
around the US and the tip of Mexico.  We were at some greasy spoon here (New Mexico I think).
She loved those diners, and I guess I have a fondness for them as well.  This pic was taken by a
french guy we met up with on the Greyhound we were traveling on.  I was rude and asked him
for some of his potato chips (I was hungry man!).  I'm sure I embarrassed my mom to death!
I know if my son did that I'd be embarrassed!  He didn't speak english well enough that I could understand him, but I guess he and mom understood each other well enough.  We all hung out for quite awhile.  Too bad I don't have a picture of him though, I remember him being very nice to my mom.

I really miss my mom.  Especially when I have need of her advice on things....marriage, child rearing, rituals, life in general.  I often dream of her.  Sometimes she looks the same, sometimes she looks completely different, but I know it's her.  She is usually with another family (her current family?).  She always smiles at me, and sometimes waves.  I wonder if she ever dreams of the little girl she had once in another life.....

I have dreams that I think may be past life dreams because they are repetative and very detailed.  I "remember" sweeping dirt floors in the kitchen (doesn't sound very hygenic), and kids running around.  Behind the house there was mountains, to the right of the house a creek and fields everywhere else.  Pictures I have seen that remind me of the past life house are viking long houses and scottish black houses. I'm sure other culture had houses like these as well, if you run across any let me know, I'd like to check them out.  Here are some examples of each below.  The big pic is a longhouse, if you would like more info click
HERE.  The smaller pic is a black house.
