In the begining before time began there existed a deep emptyness (no darkness, no light, and no earth). Then somehow this enormous vacancy was able to give birth to Chaos, the darkness, to Gaea, the earth, to Tartarus, the regin beneth the earth, to Eros, the shining god of love and attraction, and some say to Khronos(not to be confused with the titan Cronus), time, to Thesis, creation, and to Phusis, nature. Chaos was the first to bear children. She first gave birth to Nyx, the starry night, and to Erebus, the darkness of the neitherworld. Nyx then slept with Erebus and she soon gave birth to Aither, the light of the heavens, to Hemera, the light of the earth, and some say to Kharon, the ferryman of the underworld. Nyx then went on to, alone, give birth to doom, death, old age and many other sorts of things that plauge mankind in the night. Their names can be found here. The god Aither then layed with Hemera and she in time gave birth to Thalassa, the sea. Gaea, better known as mother earth, went on to alone give birth to Pontus, the sea, and to Uranus, the heavens or sky. She also gave birth to the Ourea Mountains and to the Nesoi Islands. Gaea then went to lye with her son Pontus, and from this union came Nereus, Thaumas, Phorcus, Ceto, and Eurybia. She then was married to her son Uranus whom which she conceived many children by. First there were the three Cyclopes, the three Hecatoncheries, and then came the twelve Titans. Uranus hated his children and they hated him in return. In vengins, Uranus took the three Hecatoncheries and forced them back into the womb of Gaea, She suffered in pain and command that her children seek to destroy Uranus. All of her offspring seemed to be too afarid to stand up to thier father, all except Cronus. Cronus was the youngest Titan and bravest of them all. He hid in the darkness as his father came to lye with Gaea, Cronus then cut off his fathers genitails and threw them into the water. From the foam of the water arose the Erinyes, Meliads, Hyllua, Leitus, and the race of the giants some even say Aphrodite. Cronus then took over the role as king of the gods and threw the Hecatoncheries and the Cyclopes into Tartarus. He then made his sister Rhea his wife and begant many offspring. But Gaea prophesised that the children of Cronus would overthrow him just as he did his father. In fear of this, Cronus soon swallowed all the children that Rhea begant. Posiden, Hades, Demeter, Hera, and Hestia. This hurt Rhea very much and in order to save her youngest child, Zeus, she gave Cronus a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes. Cronus, beliving that it was his son, gobbled it up. Rhea then secretly took her son to the island of Crete where he was to be raised by the Naiads, or water nymphs. As years passed and Zeus grew into manhood, he began to seek out help to dethrone his father. Zeus then came upon the titaness Metis, who was one of his uncles, Oceanus's, daughters. She gave him a potion in which Zeus gave to his father. This caused Cronus to become very ill and he soon vomited up all of this children whom where fully grown. It is said that Zeus either killed his father or forced him to leave Greece where he went and brought up the golden age. Zeus then took over ruler and high god. Far beneth the earth existed Tartarus, a firey torturement. Tartarus soon lyed with his sister, Gaea and she begant Typhoeus, an immortal giant, and Kampe, a monsterous Drakaina appointed by Cronus to guard the Cyclopes and Hecatoncheries trapped in Tartarus. Typhoeus went on to marry and father many offspring whom can be found at this page. |
