This is a fun little piece that was originally designed as the opener to a larger work which might eventually be completed (though, if it is, it will not include anything you see here). It is based, thematically speaking, on a strong latin/funk groove, which is balanced out by more ethereal, uncertain material. While there is a lot of music that gets repeated, like any good latin band, the percussionists are expected to play around with the written notes and use them simply as an overall guideline. Not the most complex of pieces, but still fun.
