Game types

Halo 2 has tons of game types, and you can make your own, so listing them all would be pointless. Instead, the following is a list of the basic game types. each of these has many subcategories, but only a few of each will be listed.

-Slayer

The object of slayer games is to reach the kill count before your opponents. The different game variants within slayer simply offer more complex ways of slaughtering your foes.

-Team Slayer

Just like standard slayer, but with teams. If your team reaches the kill cap first, you all win!

-Snipers

No radar, and you start with a rifle. Snipe out your enemies until you reach the kill cap.

-Juggernaut

One player is the Juggernaut, and that player is the only one who can get points. the juggernaut is faster, stronger, and tougher than normal players, and as a result all non-juggernaughts are on a separate team. Kill the juggernaut, and you become the juggernaut. Become the juggernaut and reach the kill cap to win the game.

-Capture the Flag

Most of us have probably played this in elementary school gym class, if not elsewhere. The object is to run to your opponents base, grab the flag, and run back to your base with it. The twist is, being a video game, if someone takes your flag you don't need to tag them, just shoot them in the back of the head a few times and take it back! good stuff.

-2 flag

classic CTF, two flags, bring your enemies flag to your base (while your flag is still there) for a point.

-1 flag

a bit more challenging, only one flag is on the map at a time. Teams are assigned offense or defense, and need to capture or protect the flag within the time limit. Teams trade rolls each round.

-Multi-flag

More than 2 teams? no problem. Maps are designed to house extra flag bases, although not quite as strategic as the red and blue ones in most cases. Multi-flag is capture the flag where anyone can go for anyone else's flag.

-Assault

Assault is similar to CTF, only backwards. rather than bringing your enemies flag to your base, you need to bring the bomb TO their base, and arm it without getting mowed down.

-Neutral bomb

One bomb is placed centrally on the field, and its up for grabs. Try to bring it to the enemies base before they can bring it to your base to win.

-1 bomb

This is the same idea as 1 flag CTF. Your team is assigned offense or defense, and you trade rolls each time bringing the bomb to your enemies, and keeping them out of your base.

-Multi-bomb

This gets tricky. Same old bomb game, but there's more than one bomb! Don't neglect your base when you run off to attack your opponents, or you'll end up loosing, and fast.

-Oddball

Oddball is a time based game where players fight over a skull in attempts to hold it for the necessary duration. While holding the skull, your only defense is your Melee attacks. Hold it as long as you can, but be carefully, your enemies can see you on their screen no matter where you are, so hiding may not be the best option!

-King of the Hill

Plots of land are marked as "the hill" in this time based game. Stand inside the glowing circle to gain time.

-Team King of the Hill

Your teams job is to become king of, and then defend the hill for the time limit. This is harder than it sounds, as a well placed grenade can take out most of the hill area.

-Crazy King

This is run of the mill king of the hill except for one fact. Every now and then the hill will move to a new location.

-3 plots

King of the hill with multiple hills. Teams capture the hill and place a flag there, after which they don't need to stand at the hill, and are free to kill other players or capture other hills. If a player from another team walks onto a hill controlled by one of his enemies, the flag will start to disarm itself. When the player gets the flag-bar all the way down, the opponents flag will disappear, and he must wait additional time to set up his teams flag. Try to hold as many plots as you can to reach the time limit first.
