Granville Rescue Training
The Granville Rescue Squad ensures quality care to patients by offering training to the volunteers who serve the agency.  Training is key in EMS.  Granville Rescue requires certain training of all probationary and full members of the squad.  The squad offers in-house training, as well as sending interested members to state courses on both sides of the border.
Upcoming Training:

CPR Training availble upon request
Levels of Training in GVRS:
When an individual joins the squad they are a probationary or junior member; here he/she is offered the first taste of training.  The individual is placed on a night or day crew to his/her preference.  Here, the individual learns the basics of EMS.  The member is shown the territory covered, inside and outside of the ambulances, station, and taken through duty checklists.  The new member is allowed to help out on emergency runs as well, to the discretion of both the crew chief and probationary member.  As the member works along, a checklist of their progress is kept.  This includes both skills on and off calls, as an assistant to the crew chief and driving with a trainer.  Once the checklist, trips to the hospital, and driving test are all complete, and only after three months, the member is voted on to be a full member.  If this is not done by the three month mark, the members probation  can be extended to six months. At this time the member is a driver.  All non-probationary members of GVRS are required to have a valid CPR/AED card.  If the member now wishes to persue higher education, this is provided by the squad.  State classes are held throughout the county.  The member may take a Certified First Responder class, the Emergency Care Attendant class, or the Emergency Medical Technician course.  These are time consuming and require a dedicated volunteer.  After successfully completing the course, the member is an intern for the position he/she has achieved.  To come "online" as any of those positions, a checklist and number of skills have to be completed.  There is no time limit to complete these after a member becomes a full member.  Once an EMT, a number of trainings must be completed.  These are required by the state and are usually quarterly or annually.  The EMT can move up once again.  If approved by the captain, and after a year as an EMT, the member can enroll in the Intermediate course.  Again these courses are time consuming.  Upon completion of this course, the member is once again an intern.  After completion of a number of emergency calls acting as crew chief and demonstrating skills, the member can become an Intermediate.  This member can also move up.  New York State offers a Critical Care course.  This takes long hours and much patience to complete.  Before practicing alone, the technician must also be observed, much like the other levels of training.  One more level of training is offered in the EMS setting.  Paramedic is this level.  The certification is a very long course and requires dedication and patience.  Paramedics also have an intern period where they are observed by senior members.

Upon reaching the status of driver, members are not required to further their education.  Above CPR/AED, courses are not mandatory.

Granville Rescue offers in-house courses as well.  Some of these are mandatory training for all members.
Junior Membership
The Junior Membership program is offered to individuals from ages 16 up until 18.  It is a chance for these individuals to get involved in EMS and learn new things.  These members are not required to participate in any events or calls, but are always welcome to.  While a Junior Member, a person can take courses much like the probationary and driver members.  They must wait, however, until their 18th birthday to apply for probationary membership.  Hhere they will begin driving and continue their education in ems.  This is a wonderful program and has proven to be successful in Granville Rescue, producing our current top three line officers and a total of 7 members..  It gives a teenager something to do and often proves to be a positive experience for the individual.  Granville Rescue looks for mature candidates for these privlidged positions.
