Hey Everyone,

As you all realise - the next 15 weeks is going to be really full on - our busiest time ever. We really have to put our heads together, and make this exhibition the best we can! Heres a rundown of what happened at this weeks graduate exhibition meeting:

Graduate Exhibition Theme

The time has come to get our exhibition wheels in motion. A theme must be decided on as quickly as possible to allow adequate time for creation of... well....pretty much everything! We need everyone to help out - let's make this the best graphic design and multimedia exhibition that Perth has Ever Seen!!

What we require is for everyone to submit a rough concept / idea / theme. It doesnt need to be ultra detailed, but the idea needs to be clear, and must be able to transfer accross many different mediums. Just fill out the PDF form attatched to this email, or even scribble your ideas down on a few bits of paper, and hand it back to any of the commitee members by friday august 9th.

Try not to think of your concept as just a name for the exhibition. Try to think of the whole look and feel of the exhibition- think of it as an experience! consider: target audience, the layout, the application (invites, CD rom cover, flyers posters, multimedia projectors, exhibition layout, exhibition identity, logo, plus crazy stuff....like: popcorn machines, bouncy castles, musicians, contortionists... whatever!! go crazy! have some fun with it !

All design concepts and theme ideas will be presented in one of the studio labs (which room, and at what time yet to be decided - i will let you all know). Each and every student in 3rd year graphic design will have a chance to vote for what they think is the best idea/concept for our exhibition.

* remember that this easy task could have you credited with the concept design; a sexy peice of ass for your resume!
We realise that about half or so of third year students are already doing this as a project for Mary Kelly or Becky. Then you have an even easier task ! just submit us an idea that you are already working on!

So if you really care about your graduate exhibition - and ultimately your futures, then please help us out! The more ideas we get, the better!
Thanks heaps everyone!

- Graduate Exhibition Interactive CD
The multimedia design students will commence designing the graduate exhibition interactive CD soon. But without an exhibition theme, they can do bugger all - so please fill in that PDF !

This CD will showcase every student's best pieces of work that they have produced during their time at college. Each student is required to have all of their work that they want to be displayed on the CD ready by the end of this term - approximately week 8.
This is a VERY important part of the exhibition - the CD acts as a long-term promotional piece for each and every one of us. The CD might very well get you a job! so think wisely about what you want to display on it.

It would be wise to start thinking about what pieces of your work you would like on the CD-Rom NOW. The multimedia students will be designing the interface, so all that you will be required to do is submit Image files of your best pieces of work, which will be put onto the interactive CD.

The deadline and details for the size/format and amount of images you can have on the CD are yet to be finalised. I will keep you all posted...

Movie and Drinks night fundraiser

Tickets are available from any of the exhibition comitee members for $13.50 which includes
- Movie: ' Bend it Like Beckham' - critically acclaimed really funny movie !
- Free Drink at the leederville hotel
- Happy hour
- the chance to unwind, have a few drinks and a few laughs !
All money raised will go towards our graduate exhibition.

Student Exhibition Fees

The second $50 installment of the $150 exhibition fee is due to be paid by each student, by no later than Friday August 16th.
This can be paid to any of the representatives in your major elective classes. Remember, if you dont pay your exhibition fee, you will unfortunately not be able to exhibit. - its a team effort, if we dont all chip in and help, its not going to work. If you have any questions, or problems with this, just email me (dan) or talk to any of the commitee members at college.

- Jacksons Voucher Prizes !!

Many thanks to Jacksons Drawing Supplies (Northbridge Branch) who have kindly donated two $150 Jacksons vouchers to our exhibition, for use as prizes for the top graduates. There will be prizes for all of the top graduates in each elective.
We are looking at getting DFI (design for industry) students to design the trophies for this years graduate exhibition. The trophies will be handed out to top graduates from each elective.

The awards / prizes up for grabs include:

Yo,

Here's this weeks latest news from the exibition meeting:-

Graduate Exhibition Student Levy $50 Deposit Due Friday June 7th !!

The representatives from each major elective have been collecting the student exhibition levy during the past couple of weeks. only 15 or so of around 55 students have paid their $50 depost. Remember, your $50 deposts for the exhibition fee are due to be paid by this Friday the 7th of June. The remainding $100 after that can be paid off weekly or monthly in the next couple of months after that.
Please see your representatives from each major elective either by this friday to pay your $50 exhibition fee.

The $50 deposit, and the total $150 may seem like a fair bit of beer funds, but remember just how much you will be getting out of the exhibition :

- a kick ass exhibition, showcasing all of our work from the past 3 or more years
- the attendance of a huge chunk of WA and interstate creative professionals and potential employers
- the chance to get your work seen & noticed by industry creatives
- great exhibition venue
- Beer, food and wine
- trampolines.

If you have any questions or problems, contact any of the representatives:
Heres the list of representatives from each major elective, and their eMail addresses:

CADBURY FUNDRAISER - WITH 100% PROFITS GOING TO US !!!!

- thats right. 100% profits going to our graduate exhibition. Our Chairperson (exhibition chief™) Tracey Ellis has looked into this fundraising idea, and with 100% profit margins, we have decided to definately go ahead with this. Basically we will be ordering about 20-30 boxes of cadbury chocolate products (such as chocolate bars, freddo frogs and stuff..).
Each box contains about 40 freddo frogs (or similar). we pay cadbury about 50 cents each for these, and sell them for around $1 - $1.50 each (depending on which product you choose to sell..) pretty decent huh. If we sell enough, we could raise ourselves a decent amount of funds for our exhibition !

So, now i need to ask a huge favour. We need as many people as we can to sell some of these chocolates.
They sell very easily, you can take them into work, or sell them at college, or to random people on the streets. At $1 or so each, its pretty decent. and its for a good cause - Our exhibition !!

So please, if anyone is willing to sell even just one box of these chocolates, can you eMail Dan, Skye, Tracey or any of the commitee members, OR talk to us in person, OR drop a note with your name and how many boxes you want to sell, onto a piece of paper, and put it into the Noodles Suggestion Box™, in the front office. Helping to sell some chocolates would help us out heaaaaaaps !

Castle Wolfenstein LAN Network Party

In last weeks eMail, I told y'all about Sean Steffanoni's idea for fundraising. which is playing the game 'Return To Castle Wolfenstein' on the college's new Macs and LAN cable Network.
Well, it looks like its most certainly going to go ahead ! and we have set this to be held on SATURDAY 22nd JUNE, which is at the end of week 19. We are still working out the final details and arrangements, and we will be talking to Mark Bryce and the computer chief™ John Paul.
For those of you that have not played wolfenstein before, or think that Dan is talking shit again, then heres an explanation:
- i should stop smoking weed.

- no seriously, Return To Castle Wolfenstein is a 3D computer game, where a whole heap of people can play against eachother on the cable network, and basically shoot the shit out of eachother in team battles. you get to use cool weapons like rocket launchers, flame throwers, and other Arnold Swarzeneger type stuff. its heaps of fun ! In the game there are also tasks and objectives to perform, which earn you points.
The person with the most points at the end of the round, will recieve a prize ! (prizes are being sorted out now as we speak..)
So keep Saturday the 22nd of June free, for some wolfenstein carnage and mayhem !!

The wolfenstein sessions will be 3 hours long each...for a small entry fee (still being finalised..thought probably around the $5 mark..

Session one: Sat 22 June, 9am - 12pm
Session two: Sat 22 June, 1pm - 4pm

Please let any of us committee members or representatives know if your interested, or have any suggestions or ideas !! This should hopefully be a fun, and enjoyable fundraiser, earning us a fair bit of fundage towards our graduate exhibition !!

We are currently getting quotes for exhibition-related equipment, supplies and materials. If anyone has contacts, or knows of some good places to try for quotes, or even better; sponsorship or donations, please let me (Dan) or Skye know, or any of the commitee members or representatives or drop a note into the Noodles Suggestion Box™ located in the front office.

Dan eMail: [email protected]
Skye eMail: [email protected]

Things we require quotes for :
Food (for approximately 400 or so people)
Catering
CD burning (bulk)
CD label & Packaging printing (1500 ?)
Brochure/poster/flyer/advertising printing
Beer, wine, drinks, beer, and more beer
sound & lighting equipment
digital projectors
advertising in community newspapers, or radio (RTR?) or similar
trampolines and circus folk

- We are still looking for major sponsors for our exhibition. We have begun contacting local and interstate businesses via phone, eMail and posted letters. If anyone has any contacts, or knows of any businesses that might be able to sponsor us, or help out in some way please let us know, by eMailing Dan or Skye...or by placing a note with the company name & details on a slip of paper, into the Noodles Suggestion Box™ located in the WASADM office.

Dan eMail: [email protected]
Skye eMail: [email protected]

Remember the sponsors do not have to be design related businesses. anything ranging from computer supplies, to food, or even monkeys that do tricks, would be extremely helpful! Please keep using the Noodles Suggestion Box™ located in the front office, or eMail Dan or Skye if you have any ideas, opinions, sponsors, regarding graduate exhibition issues. If you know some circus folk, that would also be a great help.

Thats about it for this week.
Cheers!
Dan.

Yo,

Here's this weeks latest news from the exibition meeting:

Student Exhibition Fee $50 deposit - FINAL DEADLINE

As you all know, the deadline for the $50 deposit was required by last friday, June 7th. Thankyou to those who have paid their deposits (or even better - the full amount). HOWEVER - there are still a lot of people who have not paid their deposits.

We are all students, so we understand that money can be quite scarce at times. So if you are having trouble with paying the deposit for the exhibition, come see any of us exhibition commitee, or one of your major elective representatives, and we will sort something out for you (such as an extended payment schedule, similar to the way tafe let you pay fees - in weekly installments).

Those who do not pay their exhibition deposit of $50 by the end of this term, will unfortunately not be able to exibit
(unless you have come to see us for a weekly payment plan). I know this may seem harsh, and your probably all about ready to kill us! but if you think about it, its only fair. The Graduate Exhibition a team effort, everyone is required to help out in order for it to work.
So if you have not paid your $50 deposit, can you please pay this by no later than friday in week 20, to any of the representatives.

Exhibition Planning Information Website - NOW ONLINE!!

http://wasadm.central.wa.edu.au/student1/exhibition02 or

www.geocities.com.graduate_exhibition02

I have pretty much finished putting together a webpage for all of this exhibition information. It is Now online for everyone to view. it is just an exhibition information page - no portfolios or other stuff. The site contains information such as:
- Important Notices regarding the Exhibition
- Minutes from each weeks meeting (incase you cant be arsed checking your email) (this is not uploaded yet)
- Photos of last years exhibition, so we can begin thinking about how to organise and lay out our exhibition
- 3D rendered visuals of the Exhibition Display stands AND the exhibition Area, where it will all be held. Hopefully this will help you to start thinking about how to set up your own personal design display at the exhibition. It also might help with the exhibition theme assignment next term !!!
- Contacts of ALL students, lecturers, commitee members and representatives.
- Links to good design websites and other random shit.
- Message Board for you to post any ideas, comments or abuse regarding exhibition related stuff. Your comments will be forwarded (via email notification) to the exhibition commitee, so we can raise your suggestions & ideas at the next meeting.

CADBURY CHOCOLATES FUNDRAISER SUCCESS !!

The fundraiser chocolates that we have been selling this week have been a HUGE success. A big thanks to everyone who helped to sell, or purchased some of the chocolates. We have sold almost 24 boxes (20 pieces in each box) in just 3 days. We make 100% profit on each iterm sold ! Since it has been such a kick-ass fundraiser (and easy to sell) we will be ordering another 40 or so boxes next week.
So if anyone else can help out, please let us know - we really need as many people as we can.
Remember - theyre only $1 or $2 each, and are SO EASY to sell ! and we make 100% profit, going to the exhibition !!

Wolfenstein LAN Network Party - Saturday June 22nd
The Network game party, with games such as Castle Wolfenstein playable against eachother on around 60 brand new G4 Powermacs! It is all set to go ahead, and will be held on Saturday June 22nd (the end of week 19). There will also be a Nintendo Gamecube, (multiplayer) playable on the big projector screen! Also their will be prizes !!
The sessions are:
Session one: Sat 22 June, 9am - 12pm - $5 entry Fee
Session two: Sat 22 June, 1pm - 4pm - $5 entry Fee
There are limmited places, so if you are interested in coming along to this carnage-fest, please let Dan know via eMail, with just your name, and amount of people you will be bringing with you ( [email protected]) OR let any of the commitee members know in person.

Exhibition Theme Assignment

In the first two weeks when we return from holidays, there will be a short 2 week assignment given to EVERYONE, in either promotional design class with Mary Kelly, or Information Design with Dylan Buckee. Basically this assignment is going to be a short and simple task, where everyone will be required to just put down some rough sketches, and concepts and scribbles onto paper (nothing flashy...just rough visuals) along with a paragraph or so explaining your theme.
All of these ideas for the theme will be put up on a wall in one of the main graphic design rooms. Basically there will be a chance for everyone to vote on which theme ideas they think are the coolest. Once narrowed down, the best idea will be further developed into a kick ass exhibition, by teams of people. The reason we will be dong it this way, is because an awesome concept is more likely to come from 50+ people (and 50+ designs) as oposed to only a few people and a few designs. We want to have an awesome exhibition - and totally piss on anything that has ever been done before ! (excuse my french)
When the final theme is chosen, we will require volunteers to help to put this thing together, because obviously it cant be all done by one person - there needs to be like 10+ people at least working on the whole thing.

Thats about it for this week,
Cheers!
Dan.

Yo, Here's the latest news from the exhibition meetings. Sorry that its been a delayed telecast, but im a sloth.

Brass Monkey Hotel !!
Woooooohooooo! Just a reminder that everyone will be meeting at the Brass Monkey Hotel on Thursday the 27th June at 12:00 Lunch (after we pay our tafe fees) for an end of semester wind-up, and beeeeeer. So please come along for a few beers and plenty of laughs!
did i mention beer?

Exhibition Cost Estimate
Sarah Morrison has worked out an estimated cost of our graduate exhibition. (thanks Sarah!)
This has worked out to be approximately $7000 bare minimum. (without extras, for example - last years graduates spent like $600+ on that goodbye mothership candy!)
We are trying to raise as much funds as we can - even more than $7000 if possible. It would be awesome if we could get around $10 000 - $12 000. I'll keep you all posted.

Drinks & Movie Night Soon

Early next term there will be a Movie / Drinks night - similar to what the graduates did last year. It will be held at the Luna in Leederville - and a free drinks and happy hour is the word at the leederville hotel afterwards! gotta like that! All proceeds wil be going toward our grad show !
I will keep you posted with final details. there will also be posters plastered around the college and around Perth. Bring as many people as you like !!

Prize Donations!!

Big thanks to Tracey Ellis who has been speaking to heaps of businesses around perth, regarding sponsorship and/or donation of prizes to be given out at the exhibition. So far Jacksons Drawing Supplies, and Artref Apple Computer Supplies have both said they will contribute prizes.
Jacksons have offered a basket of drawing supplies and art goodies and Artref have offered a copy of some adobe software (yet to be finalised as to what program will be given away...although adobe illustrator 10 was mentioned as a possibility... pretty sweeeet huh?!)
Anyone with contacts or if you know of a business that could possibly sponsor us or donate prizes, please contact Me (Dan), skye, Tracey or any of the other exhibition commitee crew!

Dan [email protected]
Skye [email protected]
Tracey [email protected]

Exhibition Booooooze!

Thanks to our many contacts in the beer and wine industries of good times, we have stumbled across some really good wine deals! Thanks to Garry Simms and Russell Heally for these insane quotes.
Currently we are looking at $66 a carton ! (good quality Shiraz Cab. Sab. i believe..)
These bottled of wine will be without labels. So when designing your theme for the exhibition at the start of next term (pro design and info design classes) please consider wine labels in your concepts!
(that could be a cool quirky exhibition identity addition!)

Wolfenstein LAN Network Game Success

A Big thanks to those who helped to organise, or attended the Wolfenstein LAN Network game party on Saturday June 22. It was heaps of fun, we all blasted the sh$# out of eachother, and had a good laugh. We managed to raise about $125.
There will be more of these Network Game meets in the future, with more and more people, which means more and more funds for the exhibition! It really is heaps of fun, so please think about coming along! The next Network game meets will be during the week, after class hours. (after 6pm)

Student Exhibition Fees
Just a reminder to those of you that still have money remaining to be paid for your Student Exhibition Fee. We would greatly appreciate if you could pay this ASAP. The deadline will be early next term, However it would be wise to pay it off in small amounts, or in full as soon as you can. That way we can start purchasing/hiring/bribing for exhibition stuff. thanks !

Thats about it for now. Enjoy your 3 weeks holiday break! I will keep you all posted during the holidays with any exhibition news, updates or meetings at the pub !!!!!

I will update the website in the holidays, so please check back at either:

Hey ferret munchers,

Here is a rundown of the things that were discussed at this weeks exhibition meeting:There have been quite a few developments regarding exhibition fundraising ideas this week. Heres a couple of them..

- Sean Steffanoni has come up with a pretty bitchin' idea for fund raising and mayhem, which is to hold a LAN Network party utilising WASADM's new Powermac computers, and the cable network. Anyone will be able to come along, and for a small fee, they will be able to play games such as Castle Wolfenstein and Quake 3 Arena, and basically shoot the sh@#!t out of eachother! Its a hell of a lot of fun ! Take out all of that assignment deadline stress by shooting eachother in Quake 3 !
If you have any suggestions, comments, ideas, etc..contact Sean Steffanoni via eMail... [email protected]

- Another idea in the works is a night out on the town! We are trying to organise a party to be held at somewhere like The Paramount, Palas, or the Varga Lounge. There will be stuff like DJ's, Drinks, Food, and good times ! Proceeds will go towards the exhibition. This fundraising idea is still in the works.. so if anyone knows some good perth DJ's, or good venues or whatever, contact any of the commitee members via eMail, in person, or the Noodles suggestion box™

- We are now looking for major sponsors for our exhibition. We will contacting local and interstate businesses this week, by phoning, eMailing and posting letters. If anyone has any contacts, or knows of any businesses that might be able to sponsor us, or help out in some way (eg: lending of equipment, catering, drinks...etc), please let us know, by eMailing Dan or Skye...or by placing a note with the company name & details on a slip of paper, into the Noodles Suggestion Box™ located in the WASADM office.
Dan eMail: [email protected]
Skye eMail: [email protected]

Remember the sponsors do not have to be design related businesses. anything ranging from computer supplies, to food, or even monkeys that do tricks, would be extremely helpful !

- Graduate Exhibition Student Levy

As you all are aware, we have commenced collection of the student exhibition levy over the past two weeks. In order for us to have an exhibition, and start purchasing, hiring & organising stuff for the exhibition, we need funds! So, a deposit of $50 (of the total $150 levy) is required to be paid by Friday June 7th.
Your representatives from each major elective will be available to collect the funds during your classes this week.
$150 may seem like a fair bit of beer funds, but remember just how much you will be getting out of the exhibition :
- a kick ass exhibition, showcasing all of our work from the past 3 or more years
- the attendance of a huge chunk of WA and interstate creative professionals and potential employers
- the chance to get your work seen & noticed by industry creatives
- great exhibition venue
- Beer, food and wine
- a giant 200 foot tall jerbal-ferret hybrid, with six ears and 42 arms. (no not really, i can't back that one up..)

Heres the list of representatives from each major elective, and their eMail addresses:

Corporate Identity - Ryan Minchin - [email protected] & Stephanie Marinovich - [email protected]
Illustration - Marc Ham - [email protected] & Lian Tan - [email protected]
Art Direction - Paul Innes - [email protected] & Noodles - [email protected]
Multimedia - Fred Loo - [email protected] & Tara J - [email protected]
Photography - Aidan Tate - [email protected] & Noodles - [email protected]

- There are still a few people not on Dan's eMailing list for exhibition updates, and essential craziness. So if any of these people are in your classes, can you please get them to eMail me (Dan) [email protected]

They are:
Olivia Lamont
Gritchai Suktham
Kirillie Moylan
Kasia Mazurkiewicz
Zac Harvey

- The news on the exhibition theme, is that we will all be undertaking an assignment in promotional design and information design classes (whichever one you are in) first project next term (term 3). Basically, once the assignment is completed, they will all be put up in one of the studio rooms, and there will be a voting system, where every student, and lecturer can give their opinion as to which theme they think works best.

So start thinking of some crazy ideas, and get those concepts happening! REMEMBER - dont just think of crazy names, think of the whole look and feel of the exhibition identity will be. right down to invites, gift packs....or giant laser beams ! (i dunno, i just threw that one in..)
Wotttttya think ? - let me know if you have any questions.. [email protected]
