Mark

Chapter 16

16:1``And, the Sabbath being past,
Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James,
and Salome bought aromatic spices
in order that, having gone, they might anoint Him.

16:2``And very early in the morning
on the first day of the week {Sunday morning},
they come to the tomb after sunrise.

{Note: Jewish time, Sunday begins on Saturday night at sundown. So this is the middle of the Jewish Sunday and early in the Sunday morning of a Gentile day.}

16:3``And, they kept on saying among themselves,
"Who will roll away for us the stone out of the door of the tomb?"

16:4``And, having looked up,
they saw clearly that the stone, which was very large,
was rolled back.

16:5``And, having entered the tomb,
they saw a young man sitting on the right, clothed in a long,
stately garment . . . white. And they were 'utterly amazed'/alarmed.

16:6``And, he said to them,
"Stop being 'utterly amazed'/alarmed.

Jesus you are seeking, the Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified.

He was raised.

He is not here.

Behold, the place where they laid Him. 16:7``

But be going . . . say to His students/disciples and Peter
that He is going ahead/before you into Galilee.

You will find Him there . . . just as He told you."

16:8``And, having gone, they fled from the tomb . . .
for there had come upon them a state of trembling and amazement,
and they said not even one thing to anyone . . .
because they were afraid.

{Note: Verses 9:20 are not in the oldest and most reliable manuscripts.}
