EARTH DAY WEEKEND- SAT APRIL 23rd, From 11AM. Meeting at 2nd and Bond. Join The Urban Divers Estuary Conservancy, The Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club and friends of the Gowanus Canal as eco-volunteer on this annual cleanwater action event. Armed with landing nets fleet of UD skiffs, and Dredgers canoes, volunteer help clean-up floatable debris along this historical canal. Free food and beverages and infotaiment about the Gowanus Canal. ESTUARY ECOLOGY FIELD TRIP & WORKSHOP- Gowanus Canal , Erie Basin, Upper Bay at Valentino Piers- and other places. Begins in April thru November.
Guided field trip along the canal to learn about the ecology, history and human impact on the historic Gowanus Canal, Erie Basin or Upper Bay at Valentino Piers or Sunset Park Waterfront. Students participate in fun and hands-on scientific investigation , exploration and discovery, to check the health of the estuary. This year Submerge- Art and Environment Festival returns to celebrate The Gowanus Canal- Live Beneath The Gowanus Canal- films screening series on the Gowanus Canal about the Gowanus Canal made by local and international artist, with a multimedia presentation of Live underwater video exploration on the canal. Annual event in OCTOBER ??. Organized by The Urban Divers Estuary Conservancy and the Dredgers Canoes Club. Free Canoing along the canal. The Urban Divers present data on annual monitoring, display tank, guide ecological tour of the canal on paddle craft. A paddle race with prizes. *Systematic Water Quality Sampling in partnership with The Department of Environmental Protection Agency- monitor , maintain and collect data from electronic remote water quality monitoring systems.
