| 1. Why can I only get Texas Wieners after 8pm? Standard Answer: A Chinchilla ordinance passed in the late 1970's states that Texas Wieners can only be sold by restaurants after 8pm EST..... Actually, Texas Wieners, while quite tasty, are a little involved to put together--the bun has to be toasted, the wiener grilled, the onions fried; you get the idea. During dinner hour, we would rather devote our attention to dinner. Texas Wieners are a treat we offer more as a snack to the late night customers. BUT, if you'd really like one of our great Texas Wieners during the day, come in on Thursdays, when they are offered as the Lunch Sandwich special. 2. Why did that table get their food first? We ordered before them! If it is not very busy, we do try to get the orders out 'first come, first serve'. However, when busy, all bets are off. The goal of any business is to get the most number of customers served, with quality product, in the least amount of time. Nothing personal, it is just good business sense. This involves a system called 'Treage'--the grouping or sorting of items to get the most done. Medics use this system to sort through a large number of sick or injured--those most in need get treated first. If the orders were taken in order, EVERYONE would be waiting much longer. This way, the guy at the counter who comes in after your table of six (and just wants toast) doesn't have to wait 30 minutes 3. Is there cinnamon in the Broccoli Soup? While the recipe for our Broccoli soup is a 'locked away' family secret, I can say that if you have certain food allergies, perhaps you should order something else. Also, if you do have ANY food allergies, please feel free to ask about any of our recipies, or food handling proceedures. 4. Why don't you accept credit cards? Credit card companies charge a fee to companies which take cards, to cover the costs involved. Also, card scanners and related equipment and services cost the company. We would rather avoid these costs, and keep our prices to our customers lower. 5. Is Al related to Al? No, the only thing they have in common is that they are both balding, bearded, middle aged white guys. Their ancestors even came from different parts of the world. 6. Why can't I get egg whites on the weekend? Like the wieners, it is a lot of work to separate the eggs when it is really busy. It would just slow EVERYTHING down to do that. If you are that concerned about your diet, we do offer egg beaters. You can get egg whites Monday-Friday. Thanks for undestanding. 7. Why can't I get my Bagel toasted? We use National Bakery bagels, which are rather large--too large to be put in even our wide slot industrial toasters without damaging the toasting coils. Thats why we grill the plain bagels. To simulate the 'toasted' affect, we can grill the bagel dry, then butter it. You CAN get your raisen bagel toasted. They are Lenders, and will fit in the toaster. 8. Why can't I get my hamburger rare/med.rare etc.? Since the e-coli scare of the late 1990's, the FDA has recomended, for everyone's safety, to only serve chopped beef products well done. We are probably pushing the envelope by still offering our eggs "over-light". We are sorry the inconvience, but if you'd REALLY like a rare burger, try our chopped buffalo burger. YUM!! PS, your waitress really should have told you--if not, let her know about it next time. 9. How are things going since the owner died? Alfred Henningsen, Commander & Chef of the Gourmet Family Restaurant since the early 1970's, IS alive and well. You are probably thinking about the late Bruce Raeder, long time friend of the Henningsen's. Bruce was also a cashier at the Restaurant, and LOVED to let people think he owned the place. Saddly, Bruce has left us due to complications from diabetis. We all miss him dearly. 10. We said "hi" to the cook as he passed us. Why didn't he answer? That would have been Al Vargo, he's deaf in one ear--he probably didn't hear you--sorry. 11. Why did my poached eggs take soooo long? Because of the really high price of natural gas, we only boil the water for poached eggs when the orders come in. Also, this is why the deep fryer is not ready until 11am. Do you have a question we can address here? Let us know. |
