Weeping Willow
I passed the night
wandering from block to block,
thinking of you
and trying not to.
The crisp air
condensed in front of me
with every breath.
I tried to take comfort
in the ramblings of strangers
but it only served
to deepen my despair.
Then just before
the break of the new day,
I saw an old Weeping Willow tree.
The drooping limbs
seemed to take me in,
to hold me, protect me.
It reminded me of you.
So I reached out
and plucked a few leaves
because I wanted
to be close to you.
and there I sat,
leaning up against the rough bark
of the old Weeping Willow tree.
I watched the moon fade away
as the sun shown over the horizon
in a bright array of colors.
It was reality
rearing it's ugly head.
I closed my eyes
and inhaled deeply.
It was torture,
but I knew
it was only a matter of time
before the sun slipped away
and I could return to you.
