a flower

you are like a flower
petals soft and new
dewdrops glistening
upon the skin of you
daily you are new to me
i could only ever be
the one that tarnishes you
that crumples you
withers you with harshness
for it is not with a touch
that i can show you
how beautiful you are
it is not with a tie
that i can make you grow
the way that i desire
there is no vase
no matter its vastness
regardless of its beauty
that could ever hold you

you are like a flower
untouched, unscathed
radiant in everyway
faults unseen
for the eye could not
but over look a blemish
unable to see a flaw
as daunting as it may be
you capture me
with softness, with beauty
thorns though there be
the beauty of all you are
encompasses me
the eyes, the ears,
the heart, the soul
the very being that i am
is completely enthralled
by everything you are
all you can and will be
and i am just a spectator
looking on as you grow
in love, in hope
in glory, in splendor,
in incomparable magnificence

you are like a flower
growing toward the light
ever opening with newness
brighter and more glorious
sublime even with age
changing, renewing
yet still captivating
all that come across you
too delicate to touch
beaming ever in every way
you are like a flower
never to be taken
from the fields of life
needing the openness
breathing the air
reaching for the sky
never stopping to notice
that time and people
stop when they pass you by

you are like a flower
leaves outstretched
catching the sun
drinking in the rain
swaying through the winds
even in the storm
you remain in beauty
holding ever to your own
grasping to the ground
knowing that it will pass
and after the rains
you will once again
open your petals
grow again in radiance
with beauty unmeasured
changed, scarred, and yet
renewed once again
and more glorious than ever
