Free Women
Another of the anomalies between the books and those who state they are Gorean is the behaviour of the Free Women. To begin with there was little tolerance of Free Women online. The men playing this game preferred to have typed to them absolute compliance. Now however the place of Free Women has been decided, and again it is a long way from what is written in the books. Free women online will often state how they should be gracious, feminine and deferential to men.
However, in reality they are often very vocal, and will join in with verbal battles, and they can be extremely abusive using the vernacular of our modern times. If there is one thing that can be said about the Gorean chronicles, it is that they are certainly contradictory. (This is of course why Lifestylers are able to find a few quotes that suit their corruption of the majority of what is written). Alongside statements that Free Women are submissive to men, and liable to be slaves in their Free Companion’s furs at nights, there are more frequent descriptions of Free Women as cold, haughty, disdainful of men and frigid.
They envy slave girls and their ability to be sexual beings. They are therefore very cruel and hard on slave girls who fear them greatly. An offended Free Women is liable to have a man that has annoyed her whipped by the City Guards, and quite often they make men submit in a variety of extremely humiliating fashions. The Panther girls, one of the groups, capture men and enslave them. All this is ignored in online Gorean activity. Free Women are seen fighting like men with swords and swilling paga in the Taverns which is something that never happens in the books.
