Wath were without ever-present midfield star Shane Brown for this fixture, and Jamie Skirrow passed a very late fitness test to be given the all clear to play in this bottom of the table clash with Stainforth. Stan Snr. went for an attacking formation, returning Rob Waddington to the starting eleven. The pitch was very boggy in places due to the overnight rain but the match went ahead and was fought closely.
Stainforth took the lead on 12 minutes when a long ball beat Adam Milner, and the striker slotted home past the oncoming Cawood. Rob Waddington grabbed the equaliser on 41 minutes, when Antony Rowe sliced a lob into his path, and he slid the ball past the keeper, and then the ball rolled so slowly through the mud, hit the inside of the post and crossed the line just before a defender ran into to clear it but put it in anyway. A scrappy goal, but they all count.
Wath went into the half-time break feeling satisfied with their efforts so far. They had pulled it level at a crucial point and now looked for the winner. But it was a long time in coming and surely there were times when the players and manager thought that it wouldn't come at all. With 2 miinutes left, Rob Waddington found Antony Rowe's throw in at his feet, and he beat the last defender to approach the Stainforth 18 yard area, and hit a weak left foot shot high to the keeper's right, who fumbled it into the back of the net. The crowds erupted. Wath had sealed victory in the most bizzare and nailbiting manner.
