Gung Hay Fat Choy!
The Year of the Ram
Current Event:
Saturday, February 1, 2003 is the beginning of the Chinese New Year. The Chinese calendar is different than the one we use in the U.S. The Chinese New Year starts in late January or early February with the new moon. It ends at the full moon about fifteen days later. The fifteenth day is called the Lantern Festival. They celebrate at night with parades and lantern displays.
There are 12 animals in the Chinese calendar. This year is the year of the Ram(sheep). You can celebrate at home by trying some Chinese food. You can make a dragon or lion mask and have a parade with lots of noise makers.

P.E. Challenge
Do you like to hoola hoop? How good are you at it? Try this challenge. See how many times you can make the hoola hoop go around in 1 minute. If it drops, just pick it up and keep counting from where you left off. Where can you get the highest score - around your waist, twirling it around your arm or around you leg? Try it and see how you do!
