I finished the school year in May by reviewing fractions, geometry, algebra and Ancient Civilizations from Mesopatamia to Rome. With the homeschool group, I took part in a science fair. I did a project about paper air planes and what makes them stay in the air. I experimented with different designs and tested to see which planes flew the farthest or stayed in the air the longest. I learned about the forces of lift, pull, drag, and thrust and how they help both a paper airplane and a real airplane to fly.
One of the highlights of the month was my day backpacking trip to Valley Forge with my scout troop. On our hike we saw Revolutionary War cannons. We went inside log cabins that the troops slept in. They were very small and cramped. We also got to see several of the generals' headquarters. They used farmhouses as their headquarters. My troop was practicing for a weekend backpacking trip that we are taking in June. We made our own lunches on little backpacking stoves. I made pasta with alfredo sauce and couscous with lentils. It was delicious. We escaped a sudden thunderstorm by dodging into a church that was along one of the roads.
Here I am at the science fair in front of my display.
My family and I have been making plans for a busy summer filled with fishing, swimming, kayaking, camping, and traveling. I am getting ready for my school evaluation and am looking forward to the start of summer. I hope everybody enjoys this month's website. Be sure to check out my article on page 3 about being vegetarian and take a look at some of the recipes! Have a great month!

Gabrielle's Grab Bag
I started soccer this month. I am on the red team. There are 8 kids on my team - 4 boys and 4 girls. We practice and then play the other teams. We play 4 against 4. It is fun. I like scoring. I have kicked 4 goals!
I also played in a piano recital. It was in a big concert hall. There were 5 grand pianos! I played on the crystal piano that was dark purple. It was a Steuben-Steinway piano. I wasn't nervous about playing, I was only nervous about talking when I had to introduce myself. I played "The Mickey Mouse March." I did well. I received a medal and a certificate. I finished my group piano classes and I will be starting my own piano lessons soon.
I got to be in the homeschool science fair at our library. My exhibit was about life cycles. I learned about different plant and animal life cycles. Life cycles tell about how a plant or animal grows and changes and how it makes more of its own kind. I colored lots of pictures of the different stages of plants' or animals' life cycles. I made them into little cards. When people came to my exhibit they had to match up the cards from the same animal, and they had to put them in order of the life cycle. I had fun!
