ISFAHAN

Picture of See-o-seh Cheshmeh

Isfahan is a city which is beautiful both at night and day. Historical bridges which light up at night are one contributing factor to the beauty. An extraordinary bridge is the See-o-seh Cheshmeh (thirty-three arches), also called Allahverdi Khan Pol. The bridge is about 300 meters in length. At night is a good time to grab a sandwich from a local deli and enjoy it while picnicking at the park located around the bridge. Many locals do just that to get away from the busy city life.

When Shah Abbas decided to move his capital to Isfahan there was already a small Timurid pavilion alongside what was to become the great square (now known as Naqsh-e-Jahan Square). This he converted into the Ali Qapu, the great gatehouse of the palace complex overlooking the square.
