Some people have major misconceptions about mining. They think we should 'go somewhere else'. Well, in order to mine anything, you have to get it where you find it. Some things just don't exist in convenient places. Mining is still a tough and dangerous occupation. We are heavily regulated in the US and many other countries. Protecting the miners and the environment is a priority with my company, and many others. It's easier where the authorities support these priorities, and aid in their implementation. Miners aren't all that different from other people. We want to be safe, and we want to do a good job, and we want to raise our families in a good environment.
Goldhunter in Nevada: Welcome to my world
My purpose in developing this website is not very ambitious. I'm putting this up mainly for my family and friends, to show them something about my life, about Nevada, and about the mining business. All the photographs here are my own.

I'm a miner. A gold miner, to be exact. Mining has changed a lot in the past century or so. Nowadays, gold mining is a high-tech, high capitalization operation. Nevada is one of the top three gold producers in the world, and the mine I work at is one of the largest operations. We produce around two million ounces of gold each year. When gold prices go up, we are happy - when they go down, we get quiet and anxious. The towns that depend on mining get anxious, too. There are plenty of dead and dying towns in Nevada, to remind us that the current 'boom' can turn to 'bust' any time. Our mine operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Our parent company is based in Canada and owns mines on five continents.
