The golden retriever can be the best friend a family ever had but only if you are willing to do your part. They require from you a commitment of time, preventative care and emotion for 12-15 years. They will however repay you your kindness every day. If you are willing to run your fingers through their golden hair you will have a buddy forever.If you are looking for a dog remember this. I am a self proclaimed golden nut and feel that the breed is tops but not at the expense of any other breed. If you are a small dog person or don�t love golden hair on every thing then the golden retriever may not the breed for you. All I ask is that you please research many breeds, than choose one. Research that breed, are there breed-specific problems you need to worry about? Do specific lines have traits you hold high. Research breeders, go to shows, and ask questions. This may seem like a lot but it is nothing compared to finding that your eight month old puppy is going to buy your vet a summer home or not make it to nine months at all.
