GODZILLA
Millennium Era

Godzilla appearant death at the end of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah let G's Japanese creators bow down for Hollywood to make their own blockbuster version of the creature.  But when that film became so poorly recieved, classic G arose from the seas once again...

To many Godzilla fans, the Millennium series was a mixed blessing, and the mediocre box office receipts were proof of that.  While the films attempted "the Best of Both Worlds" by bringing the energy of the Showa series into the monster brawls and keeping the serious tone of the Heisei series (Megaguirus and Final Wars' tongue-in-cheek additudes aside), it's questionable decision to provide no continuity with previous films, not even each other (with the exception of Mechagodzilla and Tokyo SOS) made the series a bit of an oddity.  Several of the films never even bothered to explain their history at all, making even the 1954 original questionable for continuity.

But despite being made after the death of Tomoyuki Tanaka, the Millennium films have a special place in this fan's heart, for mixing up many of the things I loved from previous series, and as a whole make these films expecially fun to watch.
