| Keeping only the original Godzilla film as backstory, continuity was rebooted in 1984 in a film that was released in the US the following year under the title Godzilla 1985. Unknown at this time, a new Godzilla was accidentally created by people from the future and like the first, this Godzilla attacks boats and submarines in the open sea. The Japanese immediatly recognize it as the handywork of Godzilla, now bigger and nastier than ever. Eventually, Godzilla surfaces in Japan to feed on a nuclear reactor and lays waste to Tokyo. After the brief attack, Godzilla follows a flock of birds back out into sea. Godzilla would surface yet again not long after, but this time the military sends their greatest weapon against him, Super-X. Super-X fights Godzilla until it's ultimately destroyed by the monster. However, scientist manage to lure away the monster using sonic bird calls, sending Godzilla straight into a trap. Godzilla follows the sonic call straight into the volcanic Mt. Mihara, where he appearantly dies in the lava below. In 1989, Godzilla proved to be down, but not out. In Godzilla vs. Biollante, Godzilla was released from his firey tomb by Saradian agents atempting to retrive his cells. Godzilla continues his rampage until he is challenged by Biollante, a giant rose monster greated by G-cells and possessed by the soul of a deceased Japanese scientist. The giant plant attempts to subdue the monster with it's multipal vines, but Godzilla refused to be taken down and used it's mighty radiation breath to burn Biollante to ashes. Godzilla continues his rampage yet again, challenged by the recently upgraded Super-X 2, which is destroyed just like it's predecessor. Meanwhile, the military infects Godzilla with Anti-Nuclear Bacteria to bring down the beast, however Godzilla is cold blooded and the bacteria requires a high body temperature to take effect. In Japan's time of crisis, Biollante rises from her grave, this time in the form of a giant Venus fly trap. Biollante battles Godzilla more viciously than it did in it's last encounter, and succeeds in helping Godzilla's tempeature rise. The Godzilla passes out in the ocean, appearantly dead, and Biollante evaporates, dissapearing into the heavens. The reign of Godzilla seemed over, however this was not to be. The creature's body temperature was brought back down by the freezing ocean and it rose once again. This Godzilla's complicated past began to become clearer (to an extent) in 1991's Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. People from Earth's future team up with people from Earth's present to erase the creature from time itself and prevent the supposed future destruction of Japan. The creature's origins is pinpointed as early as 1944 on a World War II ravaged island named Lagos. The humans of the present and future travel to this island in the past to see if the creature actually existed. They find the preradiated Dinosaur exactly where they thought it would, defended it's territory from American invaders, as a small group of Japanese soldiers take the situation to their advantage. The Godzillasaurus defeats the Americans, but is badly wounded, and is assumed dead by the Japanese who witnessed the attack. Knowing the Dinosaur would eventually mutate into Godzilla, the Futurians transport the Godzillasaurus to the bottom of the ocean, where it will hopefully be safe from the radiation of the H-bomb that will create the destructive menace of Japan. However, the Futurians have an agenda of their own. Knowing the truth that Godzilla never destroys Japan and that Japan becomes a corrupt nation that owns most of the world, they seek to destroy it instead. Using three futuristic pets named Dorats, they use the H-bomb to mutate them into a monster they can control, the three-headed King Ghidorah. Once back in the present, the Futurians order Ghidorah to start it's attack. However, they failed to compensate for the rebirth of Godzilla, for when a nuclear submarine sank in the 70's the Godzillasaurus at the bottom of the ocean mutated into an even more powerful Godzilla that would prove to be the one who attacked Japan in 1984 and 1989. The monster, very much alive, surfaces to challenge King Ghidorah, and emerges victorous, blowing off the creature's middle head and throwing it into the ocean below. Meanwhile, the people of the present don't take too kindly to being destroyed, fight back against the Futurians and conquer them as well. However, Godzilla is still on the warpath and may very well destroy Japan with his bare hands. One Futurian, who sympathizes with Japan's plight, returns to the future to reconstruct the preserved King Ghidorah into Mecha-King Ghidorah, half robot, half monster. The giant mech challenges Godzilla in a brutal battle until it chains up the menacing monster and flies it out to open sea. The badly damaged robot gives out and sinks into the depths, taking Godzilla with it. Next Page (Death) Previous Page |
