Hazzard County opened the 2009 season with a 10-6 loss to Prodigy Properties. Hazzard County couldn't get the bats going in their first game of the season and probably could have benefitted from some preseason practices. As a team Hazzard combined to hit .392 with 14 hits over 7 innings.
Hazzard started out the game with a 2-0 lead after the first inning after a Jason Dean double that scored Blaine Gellert and Troy Fette. Prodigy came back with 4 in the 2nd to take a 4-2 lead which they would never give back. Hazzard was unable to score in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings. They found themselves down 7-2 in the 5th when they were able to put 2 on the board, the first when Troy Fette scored Chris Knollman on a fly ball to right which was dropped and the second run on a Jason Dean fielders choice. Prodigy answered with 3 in the 6th to make the score 10-4 entering the bottom of the 6th. Chris Knollman scored Kyle King on a double to left center but was left stranded to make the score 10-5 heading into the 7th. After shutting out Prodigy in the top of the 7th Hazzard was only able to squeeze out a Troy Fette home run and a Joe Broering single before the final out was made to make the final 10-6.
Kyle King led Hazzard at the plate with a 3 for 3 night with 3 singles and a run scored. Troy Fette went 3 for 4 with an inside the park homer, 2 singles, and 2 runs scored. Chris Knollman went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a run scored. Jason Dean led the team with 3 RBI's while going 1 for 4. Joe Broering had 2 singles in a 2 for 4 night. Blaine Gellert scored twice and singled twice while going 2 for 4.
